Last time this wine was on sale for $14.99 was April 2020 and you all bought over 2,000 bottles in just 4 days. We've been asked multiple times since then when will it happen again, and we just have not been able to get with the supplier to pull it off.

Well, today is the day. Prepare for the madness.

So here we go, for four days only, maybe my favorite wine in the store, and our 2019 Wine of the Year - for what is an absolutely silly price.

I know what I'm drinking tonight. Don't miss out!

The #2 selling white wine in the entire store, one of our "Wines of the Year" for all of 2020, and personally my go to house white wine, is on sale through Sunday!

In all honesty, at this price this may be the best value wine in the store for me. I challenge anyone that if they find something for $10 that is better we want to know about it asap! :)

Not that many years ago, Albariño was an unusual addition to a wine list, generally the sole example of Spanish white wine. It was followed by other grapes, particularly Verdejo from Rueda, and many of us wine watchers think that Godello is the next big white Spanish grape. But Albariño is no longer an odd corner on retail shelves; now there’s an actual section. And if the grape’s producers have stopped trying every winemaking trick under the sun (brand new barrels, barrel fermentation, sweet styles), there’s plenty of variety still available, albeit of a subtler kind.

Well-known producer Bodegas lo Nuevo gives the grapes only a short bit of skin contact, at very cold temperatures, and then only a portion of the wine is fermented in large puncheons and demi-muids. The rest is in stainless steel, of course, because those vessels preserve the real charm of Albariño in its tangy citrus fruit, its hints of tropical ripeness and the mineral character from a wine grown next to the sea.

We are truly thankful to be able to continue to serve you and your family. Happy Tuesday!

Rutherford Bench Cabernet from the same people who brought you Cape Charles!

04.09.2021

2018 Darley Rutherford Bench Proprietary Red

winestore. Price: $29.99

Lowest Price in the US!

We continue to recommend using our website (HERE) and choosing in store / curbside pickup, and we will walk your order out and place it in your car

I’m hoping you’re beginning to see a pattern here. If Baron Ziegler brings us the juice, it is going to be lights out good.

Cape Charles will go down as one of the best we have ever offered. Never before have we had so many customers come back for 2+ case return purchases. By that I mean the number of customers who bought some, took it home and tasted it, and then purchased over 24+ bottles right after they tried it.

Today we have something equally as compelling. In our 10 years of working with Baron on these projects, this is the first time he was not willing to tell us where he got the juice. Only that it came from the Rutherford Bench and once we tasted it there would be no question we would want it. He was unwilling to compromise his contact, as the fruit source was too important to him.

The Rutherford Bench, if you’re not familiar, is basically like ground zero for Napa. Think Lail, Cakebread, Caymus (originally), Far Niente, Grgich Hills etc. Back in 1988 when a group of Rutherford Bench wineries were thinking about trying to establish an AVA for the area, the original committee was made up of wineries BV, Far Niente, Flora Springs, Harlan, Inglenook, Robert Mondavi, and Pine Ridge, and growers Tom and Martha May, Ren Harris, Robin Lail, Bob and Alex Phillips, Barney and Belle Rhodes, and Shari and Garen Staglin. So we’re talking the tippy top of the wine power pyramid here. I’ve included a map below of the current day stretch drive of the bench. You are probably familiar with some of the names.

The Rutherford Bench is generally considered as one of the top Cabernet producing locations on planet earth.

After bottling, we sent the wine to a wine writer friend of ours that works for a global wine publication. We wanted to see if he loved the juice as much as we did, especially at this price point.

All we got in return was a text with the below photo, this emoji 💥, and several bad words that we are not able to repeat here. We felt like our initial belief in the quality here was justified :)

If you love big red wine like we do, the color from that glass alone is probably calling your name.

This is the smallest lot that Baron brought us, so not much to go around.

All we can tell you is get while the gettin' is good.

Breakout star for $9.99 is back!

04.02.2021

2019 Chazeaux Des Beuchottes

Release Price: $15.00

SAVE 33%

Lowest Price in the US!

We continue to reccomend using our website (
HERE) and choosing in store / curbside pickup, and we will walk your order out and place it in your car.

Maybe the breakout star for us in 2020 was Chazeaux. We sent you an e-mail about it one time in 2020 and you all clearly like what you tasted the first time you bought it. You came back for more and more to the tune of over 20,000 bottles.

That kind of sales velocity matched with the global supply issues going on right now (container shortage anyone?) sent the wine out of stock for almost the entire first quarter of 2021.

Well, we are here to announce to you that the wine is back! Prepare to buy your favorite inexpensive Pinot with abandon.

Beuchottes hails from the Languedoc-Roussillon, a region of France where Pinot Noir can prosper, but only in the cooler spots. As you have probably guessed, the components for this little gem come from some of the coolest areas in the region. That said, the main goal here was to marry a traditional and elegant French style of winemaking while highlighting some of the vibrant complexity you find in larger reds from the Languedoc - and Beuchottes accomplishes that in spades.

TGIF everyone!

Let's get to it!

We continue to recommend using our website (HERE) and choosing in store / curbside pickup, and we will walk your order out and place it in your car.

This is one of the most high quality Sauvignon Blanc finds we have uncovered in some time, and it is rolling in just in time for warmer (I mean it is sloooowly getting warmer) weather.

The gang behind Valkyrie has pretty much carved a space out for themselves; their California efforts have fueled their successes beyond their humble start-up and now, after killing it with the AVERÆN project in Oregon, they’re hard at work in Washington.

They’ve grabbed some vineyards in Walla Walla Valley, Red Mountain and Horse Heaven Hills and we’re lucky enough to get in on these early efforts. There’s not a lot of Sauvignon Blanc grown in these spots – far less than there should be. But what is there produces wine like this one: poised, more bright melon and citrus - just the way it should be.

Pairs well with Easter brunch, a cool evening on the patio, binge watching Netflix (anyone got any new shows?) and pretty much anything else you can think of...

If you love crisp, dry white wine - do not miss.

We continue to recommend using our website (HERE) and choosing in store / curbside pickup, and we will walk your order out and place it in your car.

Honestly, we can't help ourselves. We just love doing deals.

So many people have been asking over the last several months "When is Benières going back on sale?" and we're all like "Probably Memorial Day" and finally we just decided - "Let's give the people what they want."

We told you back in December that Benières Pinot Noir and Chardonnay didn't win the voting here for our Wine of the Year, but maybe they should have. That we were not sure there is any brand we carry more on fire than Benieres - and that there is no brand bringing more thunder when it comes to the quality / price ratio than these wines right now.

The guy who wrote the review above about the Benières Pinot Noir clearly agrees 😂 My guess is he is buying a case at this price.

As always, thank you for your support. We work hard every single day to bring you the best possible customer service, the greatest quality wines, and the lowest possible prices...and it is because of you that we are able to make that happen.

You guys know the drill! Let's do this!

You all will be drinking the very first bottles of this Viognier ever sold in the United States, and we put it on sale for $7.99 to celebrate!

We've opined time and time again here that we need more sub $10 wine in our lives, and this one is checking all of the boxes for me and then some.

We’re familiar with Viognier, right? Ten years ago, probably not. More than a half century ago the grape was forgotten; near extinct. Certainly, two or three decades ago, only a few were true believers. But amongst them were some California and Australia winemakers.

In the 1980s, especially in California vineyards, things blew up, with acreages tripling and quintupling and other terms I’ve forgotten. There were a few successes, but many were too ripe, unbalanced and often as not smothered in new oak, like that helped. It might be unfair to say, but most in the second wave just didn't do justice to the grape or that first group of winemakers. The pioneering wineries like Alban Cellars did first rate work. On their heels, others like Calera made well-balanced aromatic versions – they knew they needed less ripeness to achieve their aim. The French too know well that the grape has to be in the right spot; the northern Rhone offers a small bit of acreage. Winegrowers have found the ideal and specific conditions in other places over the last thirty years, as the Viogniers of the northern Rhone have become pricey and sought-after. Elevated spots in the Pays d’Oc are this wine’s source; to a great degree this is the grape’s frontier now.

Think dry, floral, peachy fruits and plenty of zest. Pairs perfectly with Tuesday night :)

Happy Tuesday! Let's get to it!

I lied...this will be our best selling wine this year.

03.19.2021

2017 Cape Charles Cabernet

Release Price: $155.00?
winestore. Price: $24.99 (net)
SAVE 84%

We continue to recommend using our website (HERE) and choosing in store / curbside pickup, and we will walk your order out and place it in your car.

It’s tough for me to contain my excitement about this one. It is unanimous amongst our team - this is the single best under $25 wine (of any varietal) we have ever offered. It may be the best sub $50 Cabernet we have ever offered.

Our long time partner, Baron Ziegler, brought it to us from from one of the top, if not the top, estate in all of Sonoma County - but it's a name we cannot give you for all sorts of wine related legal reasons. Their vineyards in the Moon Mountain District are managed by a viticulturalist with clients like Harlan and Bedrock and the wines are made by a winemaker whose portfolio basically only encompasses $150 per bottle small lot wines

This particular lot, from 2017, was destined to go into one of the premier offerings at the winery, priced at $155. They decided the quality for $155 single block offering wasn't quite there, so they decided to sell the juice off into the bulk market.

We bought it. Yes, it's only a one time deal. But we bought every last bit of it :)

Other vintages of this wine include vivino write ups like this:

So the stars had aligned for a great opportunity - only issue what label would it be bottled under? It needed to be special, to reflect the insane quality of the wine. So we set to work with Baron on what we could do...

We partnered with celebrated Irish hunting and equestrian artist Peter Curling, and turned his 2002 painting “Royal Ascot Jubilee 2002” into a wine label. Last fall we got sign off on the label from Sir Francis Brooke, the Queen’s representative at Ascot (she is featured in the painting), and now we are ready to turn it loose. The painting was transferred to digital form by Tony Murray.

Nearly 30% of all the cases bottled under this one time label were sold to a distributor in the United Kingdom, to be sold in London and Windsor (and I assure you they will not be charging $24.99 per bottle).

Oh, I forgot to mention, yes this wine is only $24.99. Moon Mountain District, epic winery, world class winemaking team - $24.99.

Very good chance Oprah will be serving this at her next interview with Harry and Meghan :)

I know what I'm drinking this weekend.

TGIF!

Sale runs Thursday March 18th - Sunday March 21st, 2021

We continue to recommend using our website (HERE) and choosing in store / curbside pickup, and we will walk your order out and place it in your car.

I'll be honest, I just felt like we needed to kick off the weekend with a ridiculous deal (Thursday is the start of the weekend, right?) So why not choose one of our best selling crisp, dry white wines - and sell it for a price we have never offered before!

I mean, honestly, I'm pretty sure a local steakhouse charged me $6.99 for two diet cokes at lunch one time...so $6.99 for an entire bottle of wine is right in my sweet spot :)

So why do we love this wine so much?

The Comte Tolosan region is a defined area (the wine trade calls them IGPs or Géographique Protégée) that encompasses famed wine regions: Jurancon, Cahors and Armagnac, but the wines so named are either blends of the better-known areas or blends that include wines from outside those spots though still in Southwest France. Typically, the white wines are based upon neutral grapes like Ugni Blanc, Colombard, and Folle Blanche, or more aromatic grapes like Petit Manseng or Gros Manseng. While few of these grapes have distinctive personalities, if you put them into a harmonious blend (like we have here), they can be really charming and waaaaaaaaaay over deliver for the price point.

So leave work a little early today, grab a bottle, and start the "weekend" right. You've earned it!

SALE runs Tuesday March 9th - Sunday March 14th, 2021

We continue to recommend using our website (HERE) and choosing in store / curbside pickup, and we will walk your order out and place it in your car.

This wine has only gone on sale twice before at the $9.99 price point during our last 15 years in business. Both times were two of the most insane sales periods in our history. Like we literally could not keep the wine on the shelf. It was chaos. Controlled chaos, but chaos nonetheless.

I get it. Snowvale at $9.99 represents some pretty unreal value. I even saw someone selling this wine for $31 just last week! (Picture below)

Heck, last time we got this deal I even went in for two cases. It just works. Tuesday night spaghetti? Boom. Wednesday night burgers. Done. Saturday night Netflix. But of course.

So after much back and forth with the fine people at Foley Family Wines over the last two months, we have finally been able to secure 437 cases at this price.

Seems like a lot? If I assume the average Snowvale lover will buy 6 bottles, that means only 124 customers per store are going to be able to get their six bottles.

I wish we had more, but we don't look gift horses in the mouth over here :)

So let's get to it! Get while the gettin' is good!

Happy Tuesday!

If you stick around the wine business long enough, you’ll have seen it all. Where once wine coolers were cooler than Liebfraumilch, now hard seltzer is hot (served cold). White Zin was once de rigeur, though it was never French; it was from the good ol’ US of A. But then that became too sweet and the category died. Or seemed to. Because then rosé rose up like a zombie eager for fresh meat, though the current iteration of the pink stuff is more often French than not. Provence is the epicenter of it and the French have figured out how we like it: dry, pale pink, light and refreshing.

Grenache is a remarkable grape with the ability to generate rich, dark and powerful wine when the crop yields are modest, but just as equally it can make vast quantities of pleasant wine, with less color but vibrantly fruity aromas. As a basis for rosé, it’s very nearly perfect, and it’s been the grape of choice for southern French rosés for a century or more. A touch of texture, some brief gratings of black peppercorns and lots of raspberries and strawberries.

Truth be told, Grenache makes a reasonably tasty rosé but it’s never complete without some Cinsault. Why? Cinsault is floral, with red cherries and plums as the through line between the two grapes. Syrah brings the strawberries and raspberries, but Cinsault gives to the blend a cranberry finish.

This wine rocked our world when we first tasted it all the way back in January (which might as well have been 15 years ago), and we have had to wait until now for it to arrive...and man was it worth the wait.

Chilean Sauvignon Blanc is a really new thing; in fact, it’s new that it’s even becoming a thing. But it dates back to 1985 when the Casablanca Valley was “discovered”, at least for wine. Chardonnay was the initial push (hey, there’s money in them thar wines), and while the learning curve has been only gradually headed upward, those wines continue to improve. Sauvignon Blanc was considered too, but the early efforts were more like a watered-down New Zealand Sauvignon than anything identifiably Chilean. But that’s changing too. These wines are gaining some intensity and much like their New Zealand counterparts, these are floral and friendly.

The other awesome thing? The price is definitely right. I told you guys before that I need more $9.99 wine in my life...well, awesome $7.99 wine is even better :)

We hope you and your family are safe and healthy, and that you enjoy this beautiful Friday.

Is it 5 o'clock yet? :)

One of the co-owners of Bodegas Morca (which is the new sister winery to Bodegas El Nido, but that is for another day), approached us in the fall of 2019 about some extremely high end Verdejo that he was making.

It was aged in new Taransaud barrels (remember the T5?) for 8 months, and he said it was a dead ringer for high end California Chardonnay. Price was 35 euros ($42USD)

I mean sure, we decided to try it - and the wine really was unbelievable - and it hits all the finer points of high end Chardonnay, without the overbearing weight. Verdejo as a layered texture that is all its own, and this gem was leaving Rombauer, Sonoma Cutrer, Mer Soleil etc. in the dust. Only hiccup, and we explained this to them, was that nobody is buying $50 Verdejo in the US. Full stop. It’s just not happening. (If it is we sure don't know about it).

I guess they came prepared for that response, because they said that if we packed it in another label (not the one selling for 35 euro) and committed to a minimum of 400 cases, they could get it to us where we could retail it for $24.99...

We ordered 1,000 cases on the spot.

Their team came up with maybe one of the best labels I have seen in awhile (picture above) and the wine finally, after what seems like an eternity of waiting, rolled into our stores yesterday morning.

I have an internal bet that all 1,000 sell in the first 8 weeks. I think it’s that good. I just bought a case, and we sold 82 six packs yesterday before we even got this newsletter out.

For what it is worth, I usually don’t get too fired up about white wine for whatever reason (I really like high end sweet Riesling for instance, and that is a lonely island :), but this wine has me as excited as I have ever been. Spain once again proving that they can bring the thunder on the quality / value scale.

We get excited when we find a new wine that meets the following criteria:

- we can offer it at or tied for the lowest online price in the United States
- the wine is delicious and appeals to a variety of different palates

What gets us extra excited is when the wine not only meets these criteria, but is also a grape varietal that may not be as mainstream as Cabernet Sauvignon or Pinot Noir.

Aglianico, one of the gems of Southern Italy, is one such varietal.

Aglianico is one of Italy’s most important unsung grapes, but it’s tricky. It can be tannic and even a bit rustic, so the critical factor is where it’s grown. The Del Vulture owns its own D.O.C. and it’s a wine with more than 2000 years of history. As crucial as the volcanic soils and the elevation are to the power of the wine, in this region the wine gains the beneficial exposure of the gentle Venosa hills. Put together, the tannins are softened by the generous fruit and the wine remains bright and fresh.

It's one of my favorite under $15 red wine finds in the last several months, so we hope you love it as much as we do!

Happy Tuesday!

LAST CALL!

I'm convinced at this point that you all like a great deal as much as I do. This is one of the best ones we've run in awhile, and we're getting down to the end of the road on this one.

And given this wine is not going to be made again, when I say end of the road I mean end of the road :)

What's the deal?

The wine business can be a weird place, and the story behind this wine is a prime example.

So there was a wine made by a Guenoc Winery and Langtry Winery partnership called "Lillie's Collection Victorian Claret" for a California wine powerhouse called BevMo.

Guenoc and Langtry decide to split up. Langtry owns the trademark to "Lillie's Collection". Guenoc owns the trademark to "Victorian Claret".

Potential problem? Indeed.

Langtry continues producing the wine for BevMo but has to put "Red Wine" on the label instead of "Victorian Claret". BevMo says that doesn't work - now they don't want the wine anymore.

...and that brings us to how we are able to offer this gem at an absolutely silly price.

Langtry called us, and we were able to take the entire production off the hands of Langtry. Problem solved!

Langtry Farms was originally founded back in the 19th Century by entertainer Lillie Langtry, who purchased 4,200 acres in Northern California around 1888. Today, Langtry Estate makes up over 21,000 acres and is one of the largest continuous land holdings in all of California.

Their Petite Sirah, which makes up the base of this blend, is one of the best Petite values in the North Coast. Both powerful and well balanced, it's a prime example of what stunning values can come out of the North Coast when left at the hands of a master like winemaker Eric Stine.

So BevMo's loss is your gain - at least until we run out, as this is a one shot deal!

Happy Tuesday, and as always THANK YOU for your business!

It's a tale as old as time. Supplier calls us up and is like "Are you guys looking for an amazing deal? We have some wine we need to move."

We are like, "ummmm, yeah"...and then we're off to the races.

It seems almost criminal that a wine that travels all the way from Spain can cost only $7.99 while still tasting this good. I mean heck, some people are spending this on cups of coffee, right? I actually don't drink coffee but I have heard stories from Starbucks :)

What makes this Eric Solomon Selection so special?

When third generation vintner José Maria Vicente took over Casa Castillo it was mostly a rosemary plantation. Now it’s arguably the best winery in Spain’s burgeoning Jumilla region, where many heralded wines are coaxed out of old Garnacha and Monastrell vines. Casa Castillo is their entry level staple, with Monastrell planted on crazy-pure gravel soils and the wine treated as if it were Chateauneuf-du-Pape.

So today through Sunday this 100% Monastrell from the crowd favorite region of Jumilla (Bodegas El Nido Clio anyone?) is only $7.99.

You all know what to do!

Let's get to it!

What's up with the photo, right?

So back in December when this wine arrived in the US for the first time, we told you we thought it was going to be one of our best selling wines of 2021.

I told you that my wife did not even believe this was $12.99 when I told her how much it cost, and that we thought this was a dead ringer for high end Burgundy.

One thing I did not expect though was when I was flipping through my favorite wine magazine, Decanter, a few nights ago it would be featured in their "Top Wines of the Year".

I'm not really big into lists and such, but they put Le Paria in some pretty good company.

As you can see in the photo above, they put Le Paria right in the mix between wines that cost $132, $69, and $89 (and that's just on their page. It was their best red value selection in their top 30 reds.

It is also the least expensive wine on their entire list! (their full review below)

We said in December "we pride ourselves on trying to find extreme values here at winestore., but this one is potentially in a league all its own"...and maybe it was just kinda nice to see that others seem to agree :)

Le Paria hails from the Cabardés region inside Languedoc, and a little town called Ventenac, in the rolling foothills of the Pyrenees. For France, this is warm climate viticulture though it is not so different from the southern Rhone Valley climatically speaking. In general, the Languedoc doesn't cool off in the same manner as the Rhone but Grenache is happily at home in such a sunny place. And the family is invested not only in their historical sites and vines on the side of Montagne Noire but also in sustainable viticulture (they’re members of Terra Vitis - link HERE). The vineyard is free of chemical inputs and the wine has no added sulfites; it’s aged only in traditional concrete tanks.

TGIF people! I know what I'm drinking tonight!

I guess word has gotten out that now ALL French wine (except Champagne - those guys must have some really good lobbyists) that comes into the US is being hit with a 25% tariff, and they only gave us 12 days notice.

In the wake of this news, basically a bajillion of you have e-mailed asking when Larme will be going on sale again so you can load up. I get it. It's our best selling rosé...the wine is delicious...and at the sale price of $9.99 it is just a silly value.

Well, we are in the business of pretty much doing whatever you guys want, so here we go!

$9.99 per bottle. 5 days only. You can grab yourself a small stockpile to make it until the trade war is over :)

Why is the wine so special?

Well, if you stick around the wine business long enough, you’ll have seen it all.

Larme has all this and more in spades.

So lets get to it! Happy Wednesday!

I love $9.99 wine that delivers like this!

2018 Boulée-Cordot

Lowest Price in the US!

We continue to recommend using our website (HERE) and choosing in store / curbside pickup, and we will walk your order out and place it in your car.

When you pair wine tariffs with an EU facing relatively severe lockdowns, you can imagine that the supply chain gets slightly disrupted. Hence the reason you may have seen wines go in and out of stock this fall.

That said, when wines like Boulée-Cordot come back in stock, we get a little more excited than we do about some others. This wine, for $9.99, delivers the goods.

When we stumbled upon this wine, we got a little more than excited. We're always looking for great value wines, but finding wine that tastes great for less than $9.99 is kinda like finding an old school restaurant that still serves amazing cheeseburgers for $3.00 and $5.00 with a milkshake and fries - they are out there, but you got to do some digging.

As France evolves into the modern world, there are times when it seems that they’ve merely arrived in the late 20th century. Blends like this one wouldn't have been seen only a few scant years ago. Instead, the
wine would have been named after the place where it originated; perhaps the grapes would have been listed on the back label if they were noted at all. But somebody in France got the memo – the modern world wants more information, and the old place names, unless they’re the famous ones, don't mean much.

So basically even if we had seen this blend, we wouldn't have known we were drinking it, even if we were :) Syrah is planted throughout Mediterranean France, and has a strong reputation dating back to the
mid-19th century when Bordeaux chateaux would blend a small amount into their wines to improve them. Alicante? It’s one of the rare Teinturier grapes, having red juice as well as red skins and in the right spots it can be powerful and juicy, not just inky. Together they make for a very modern, fascinating, if nontraditional, wine.

So let's celebrate value, and all the good things that come with it. Maybe pair this blend with a burger and fries from your local place (Zacks is a favorite of mine, or Wheeler's from where I grew up)

Happy Tuesday y'all!

Highland Falls is back!

01.13.2021

2018 Highland Falls Cabernet

Release Price: $20.00
SALE Price: $12.99 (net)
SAVE 35%

Lowest Price in the US!

We continue to recommend using our website (HERE) and choosing in store / curbside pickup, and we will walk your order out and place it in your car

Since its launch in August, Highland Falls was our #1 selling wine. Unfortunately and unexpectedly it ran out of stock right before Christmas, leaving many of us (including myself) waiting patiently for it to return.

So here is some good news for 2021 - I am happy to report that the wine is finally back in stock and ready to rock!

What makes it so special?

"Mountain-grown, it’s the richest kind,” as coffee commercials used to say, but it’s also true of Cabernet. You rarely, if ever, can find mountain fruit in $12 wines. Like, I can't even think of one off the top of my head.

Foley Family's winemaking pedigree being involved doesn’t hurt either: the guys who bring you Merus, Chalone and Chalk Hill Wines are behind the powerhouse Highland Falls lineup too.

It's kinda like if the people behind Dom Perignon launched a $12 sparkler - or the winemaking team behind Rombauer rolled out a $12 Cali Chardonnay.....these are the best of the best in the Cabernet world, bringing you world class value.

Happy Tuesday everyone!
