This may go down as one of the best value red wines we have ever offered. It's that good.
What's the deal?
We like the Vellas family; we buy a lot of their wines. Why? Because they have 100s of acres of vines at their disposal in southern France? Yes, true. Is it because they consistently offer us wines that reflect their place (places like Pic-Saint-Loup and Lunel, each an area of limestone soils and bright, reflective Mediterranean sun)? Sure, that too. But, actually, it’s because value in French wine can be hard to find and the Vellas family just keeps bringing it to us. Rich, expansive Syrah for this kind of money? Yeah, yeah, that’s why.
While we love most of the value wines from Vellas, this is by far the best we have ever tried. I'm also pumped that the etched glass and the packaging scream $50 wine. (I'm into that kind of stuff :)

One time only - $17.99 - 250 six packs...it's going to be madness!
Domaine Vellas called us in March and said they had a restaurant in Europe back out of 250 six packs of this wine and could we possibly pick it up? They would be willing to drop the price significantly, this one time, if we agreed on the spot.
Once we saw the price, it was beyond an easy decision.
Based on the response from the few people that saw us put this price out last evening, my guess is these six packs will last 24-36 hours...but we all know how this goes right? We saw what happened with gas this week! Luckily we're not going to make you wait in line like at the gas station 😁
What makes this wine so special?
The Syrah, Grenache, and Mourvedre varietals are happy bedfellows from anywhere, and the Vellas family sites throughout Mediterranean help create wine with balance as well as intensity. As for the name Double Ripasse? In wine terms, ripasse is to press or to squeeze, and that typically means someone has made wine from grapes but held onto the skins. Then they dump fresh must onto those once-squeezed skins, using the new juice to soak more flavor (and often tannin) from the skins.
Do it twice? Double the pleasure, double the fun :)
If you're into light wine, this is not your thing. If you're into BIG Cabernet type wines...this is a back up the truck type situation.
One shot deal - just in time for the weekend!
TGIF!

Only 100 six packs available
Located in the Castelnuovo Berardenga portion of the Chianti Classico (or the historical Chianti) region within the much larger delineated as “Chianti”, Arceno is both traditional and modern in its embrace of Bordeaux varieties. In this particular case, the Sangiovese has 15% Merlot added to it, gaining both some muscle and power (Tuscan Merlot is that, believe me) but also a sense of flavor familiarity from that grape too.
This is one of those wines that we recommend not only because of Arceno’s excellence and almost unrivaled track record in Chianti (they produce wines under $30 that crack Wine Spectator top 20 wines of the year!), but also because the 2018 vintage is universally considered to be an ideal combination of the warmth of harvests like 2015 that were gently watered and cooled off as in 2013.
So, if you're just skimming and have arrived here for the recap, we have for you today:
1) powerhouse producer of Chianti Classico
2) iconic vintage (2018)
3) Lowest price in the US by a country mile
4) An insane wine right in my daily drinking price point sweet spot!
The only sad part? We have 100 six packs at this price.
You guys know what to do!

There are two things I love (not like I love my mother, but you know, like really really like a whole lot type of love) - those things are incredible deals and wine that comes in wooden boxes. So any time there is a deal (especially a sub $20 deal!), and the wine is in wood (especially a six pack so I don't have to buy a full case!), I get super excited!
What is so exciting about Les Cadrans?
Everything about Bordeaux is old and nothing ever changes – except for virtually everything. While some estates are centuries old, all have been purchased, re-sold, and purchased by others over the years. Sometimes the new owners append their own names to their purchase; sometimes, as with Lassègue, the owners buy an old spot and then append other properties onto them, as Jess Jackson did when he bought this place in 2003. A composition of Merlot with some Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon assisting, it’s called Les Cadrans; it’s the second label of Lassègue. Vigneron Pierre Seillan manages the estate for Barbara Banke, Jackson’s widow, and there is an 18th century château there to give the place posh and class. And to add to the estate factor, the barrels used are made by the Bordeaux cooperage that’s owned by the Jacksons with the Boswell familly (Missouri’s most important coopers of American oak). While the estate is exposed to coastal breezes, the “cadrans” part of the name (meaning “sundials” and depicted on the label) reflects the sunny aspect of their gentle hillside vineyards.
There is also something special about the Jackson Family premiere properties. They are a spare no expense operation, and when it comes to the crown jewels of their portfolio, they really let the dollars fly. So you are truly getting a world class product for the same price as the new Restoration Hardware Restaurant in Charlotte charged me for two diet cokes the other day 😂
We only have 112 six packs - so get while the gettin' is good!
Happy Tuesday!

We've got a special one for you today!
Think of Le Volte as if Opus One made a wine you could buy for $18. That's the level of quality and thunder the winery behind this gem brings to the picture. Their famous Ornellaia brand currently runs nearly $200 per bottle and their flagship Masseto currently sells for an eye watering $700 per bottle. These people know what they are doing 😊
What makes the wines so great?
Bolgheri wines are powerful, compact, hard, okay, they’re most often hard and in need of cellaring, but they can have balance. It all comes down to climate – if you are too close to the sea, you will rarely ripen those vicious, vindictive tannins. Ornellaia is in a sheltered spot where the sun can radiate, and where the ocean winds can’t quite penetrate, and Bordeaux varieties can attain deliciousness, complexity and age-ability, especially in the hands of Ornellaia (and Masseto) winemaker Axel Heinz and his team. Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot are fermented separately and then blended to be aged in concrete and oak. 2019 is a keeper, with freshness and richness in equal measure.
This is the lowest price we have ever been able to offer Le Volte for, so get while the gettin' is good!
You guys know what to do!

Aside from the awesome packaging here (I'm a sucker for these bottles with the glass stoppers), this white wine stopped me in my tracks the first time I tried it. Over the last year it has pretty much become the house white wine at our place, and every time I pull it out of the fridge and see this label, I think of this song...and that puts me in a great mood!
We worked out a deal with the importer to run this deal right at the start of May, and I am ready to back up my cooler 😁 Let's do this!
What makes Le Cabas so awesome?
Gascony ain’t just the Three Musketeers, though they have a place in our hearts as well. More than anything, Gascony is foie gras, delicious plums and apricots, rich dinners with Armagnac to follow. But the white grapes grown here are not just for great brandy, they have always been consumed as wine too and the last decade or so has seen an embrace of clean, cold winemaking to preserve the aromas of otherwise neutral grapes like Ugni Blanc or Folle Blanche. It’s also seen new plantings of Sauvignon Blanc, a grape that requires no heroic measures to reveal its aromatic riches. What’s fun here is that these same winemaking methods generate something bright and vibrant but without much resemblance to other such Sauvignon Blancs (I’m looking at you, New Zealand), many of which have begun to seem like self-caricature. This one is comfortably itself, needing only an ice bucket and a big glass.
So if you're with me, and 85 degree weather has you thinking "Summertimes Calling Me" (or maybe you like this one too?), then grab yourself a bottle!
As always, THANK YOU for your business and support. It means more than ever!

Today is one of those days in the wine business that gets you crazy excited. Austin Hope, makers of the eponymous Austin Hope line of wines, as well as Treana, Liberty School, Quest, and a few others, has just released an "entry" level Cabernet that is downright insane for the money.
Austin Hope’s family started farming grapes and wine in Paso Robles more than 30 years ago. While they planted apples, they were quick to realize that grapes could prosper as well; few did in 1978. Cabernet Sauvignon, along with Zinfandel, has long been their lodestar, and the power of Paso Robles Cabernet is now a benchmark for California wine. It also doesn't hurt that one of Austin Hope's mentors was Chuck Wagner (of Caymus fame). The Hope family used to sell grapes to Caymus, and many have opined that the Austin Hope line of wines are eerily similar to Caymus in style, at a fraction of the cost. We will let you all decide if they taste as good!

The Largest Magnum Purchase in the History of Ken Wright Cellars...
04.29.2021
Ken Wright Single Vineyard Magnums
Lowest Prices in the US!
*All magnums held at our Southpark location. Please allow one week for transfer to another store if necessary*
We continue to recommend using our website (HERE) and choosing in store / curbside pickup, and we will walk your order out and place it in your car.
We worked out a deal back in February which amounted to the single largest 1.5L purchase in the history of Ken Wright Cellars. We purchased 228 magnums, almost their entire collection, in one transaction. Obviously the reason for this is that we are now able to offer you these gems at the lowest price in the US - $99.99 per magnum. You’ll find most of the 2016s and 2017s for sale online for between $130 and $160 per bottle - HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE, etc.
They don’t make a lot of these (I actually had never even seen a magnum of their single vineyard offerings until last week), so this is an exciting opportunity for us to bring to you. I find more and more I open magnums for dinner parties, family and friend holiday gatherings (July 4th, Thanksgiving etc.) and for special occasions. They present great, are more fun, and don’t require bringing a ton of bottles.
30 magnums have sold since they arrived a few days ago (and we haven't even had a chance to tell you about them), so these won't last long. Most common phrase we've heard from people into these wines is "How did you get access to Ken Wright Single Vineyard Magnums?" 😁
We have listed out what is available below.

Our 2020 Wine Of The Year, Highland Falls, has shown no signs of slowing. You guys have gobbled up nearly 10,000 bottles in just the first 4 months of the year...so I guess you can say it's pretty popular 😁
That said, many of you have asked when it will go back on sale. Last time we had it at this price was December 12th, and you guys know we are in the business of giving the people what they want! So here we go!
6 days only. You know what to do.
What's up with the wine?
"Mountain-grown, it’s the richest kind,” as coffee commercials used to say, but it’s also true of Cabernet. You rarely, if ever, can find mountain fruit in $12 wines. Like, I can't even think of one off the top of my head.
Foley Family's winemaking pedigree being involved doesn’t hurt either: the guys who bring you Merus, Chalone and Chalk Hill Wines are behind the powerhouse Highland Falls lineup too.
It's kinda like if the people behind Dom Perignon launched a $12 sparkler - or the winemaking team behind Rombauer rolled out a $12 Cali Chardonnay.....these are the best of the best in the Cabernet world, bringing you world class value.
Let's get to it!

There is a chance that you've read somewhere that supply chains everywhere have been disrupted due to COVID. The wine industry is not immune to this situation. This Prosecco, easily the best $10 sparkling wine we have ever tasted, has been out of stock since December.
It is FINALLY rolling into all our stores this morning, and today is going to be a great day!
The minute we tasted this "extra dry" Prosecco from Raphael Dal Bo we knew we had found something special. Once we saw the price we knew we had basically gone all Indiana Jones and found the Holy Grail of Prosecco. Tastes great in a mimosa? You know it. Tastes great on its own? Of course. Budget friendly? Bingo.
What's up with Prosecco?
After decades as an only vaguely popular international wine, in 2009 Prosecco was redefined; its lesser regions becoming DOCs and its more specialized areas, Conegliano-Valdobbiadene and Colli Asolani, gaining DOCG status. There was plenty of good news in that: no more would lesser areas be available for bottling as Prosecco, and Italy could go to war against other countries (like Australia) labeling their white wines as Prosecco. For Australian producers (and others), Prosecco was a grape, not a place. Concomitant with these changes, Italy had re-titled the grape as Glera, thus mooting any possibility of other countries insisting that they were just naming their wines Prosecco as a varietal designation. Maybe it helped, but Prosecco blew up, internationally speaking.
This labeling scheme was good lawyering stuff, for sure. But the larger issue is that Prosecco is now rather complicated, if it is more protected and (theoretically at least), more controlled and likely to be of higher quality. Prosecco producers also began labeling their wines by sugar levels: Raffaello’s Extra Dry (made of 100% Glera) has about the same amount of sugar in it as most Champagnes, so it’s not sweet. But Prosecco of old was generally dry and the higher end DOCG stuff remains so. Confused yet? You should be. This is all wine law in full frontal evolution and it’s anybody’s guess if this makes Prosecco sexier or more popular than it already is. That said, it's still the first choice for most folks.
TGIF everyone!

In some weird world I thought this wine was going to last like 7-8 months. I was terribly wrong.
Ever since this e-mail went out almost 30 days ago, this wine has gone out the door at a clip of more than 15 cases per day, every day, seven days a week. This is also a wine where we have had more 2+ case re-orders from customers than on any other wine we have ever sold. (meaning the number of you who bought some, took it home and tried it, and then came back and bought 2+ cases is off the charts)
While it is incredibly exciting that people have loved the wine that much, it kinda stinks as we are going to run out soon. The last 300 cases of this arrived last Friday. At our current clip that means this will last 17(ish) days (but we all know when things get low the velocity speeds up considerably).
I’m in for another case…and I’ll pretend like I’m going to save some and drink it over the next year. Truth be told, I’ll drink through it before July 4th :)
Here is what we told you about the wine the first time:
It’s tough for me to contain my excitement about this one. It is unanimous amongst our team - this is the single best under $25 wine (of any varietal) we have ever offered. It may be the best sub $50 Cabernet we have ever offered.
Our long time partner, Baron Ziegler, brought it to us from from one of the top, if not the top, estate in all of Sonoma County - but it's a name we cannot give you for all sorts of wine related legal reasons. Their vineyards in the Moon Mountain District are managed by a viticulturalist with clients like Harlan and Bedrock and the wines are made by a winemaker whose portfolio basically only encompasses $150 per bottle small lot wines
This particular lot, from 2017, was destined to go into one of the premier offerings at the winery, priced at $155. They decided the quality for $155 single block offering wasn't quite there, so they decided to sell the juice off into the bulk market.
We bought it. Yes, it's only a one time deal. But we bought every last bit of it :)
Other vintages of this wine include vivino write ups like this:
So the stars had aligned for a great opportunity - only issue what label would it be bottled under? It needed to be special, to reflect the insane quality of the wine. So we set to work with Baron on what we could do...
We partnered with celebrated Irish hunting and equestrian artist Peter Curling, and turned his 2002 painting “Royal Ascot Jubilee 2002” into a wine label. Last fall we got sign off on the label from Sir Francis Brooke, the Queen’s representative at Ascot (she is featured in the painting), and now we are ready to turn it loose. The painting was transferred to digital form by Tony Murray.
Nearly 30% of all the cases bottled under this one time label were sold to a distributor in the United Kingdom, to be sold in London and Windsor (and I assure you they will not be charging $24.99 per bottle).
Oh, I forgot to mention, yes this wine is only $24.99. Moon Mountain District, epic winery, world class winemaking team - $24.99.
Very good chance Oprah will be serving this at her next interview with Harry and Meghan :)

Last time this wine was on sale for $14.99 was April 2020 and you all bought over 2,000 bottles in just 4 days. We've been asked multiple times since then when will it happen again, and we just have not been able to get with the supplier to pull it off.
Well, today is the day. Prepare for the madness.
So here we go, for four days only, maybe my favorite wine in the store, and our 2019 Wine of the Year - for what is an absolutely silly price.
I know what I'm drinking tonight. Don't miss out!

The #2 selling white wine in the entire store, one of our "Wines of the Year" for all of 2020, and personally my go to house white wine, is on sale through Sunday!
In all honesty, at this price this may be the best value wine in the store for me. I challenge anyone that if they find something for $10 that is better we want to know about it asap! :)
Not that many years ago, Albariño was an unusual addition to a wine list, generally the sole example of Spanish white wine. It was followed by other grapes, particularly Verdejo from Rueda, and many of us wine watchers think that Godello is the next big white Spanish grape. But Albariño is no longer an odd corner on retail shelves; now there’s an actual section. And if the grape’s producers have stopped trying every winemaking trick under the sun (brand new barrels, barrel fermentation, sweet styles), there’s plenty of variety still available, albeit of a subtler kind.
Well-known producer Bodegas lo Nuevo gives the grapes only a short bit of skin contact, at very cold temperatures, and then only a portion of the wine is fermented in large puncheons and demi-muids. The rest is in stainless steel, of course, because those vessels preserve the real charm of Albariño in its tangy citrus fruit, its hints of tropical ripeness and the mineral character from a wine grown next to the sea.
We are truly thankful to be able to continue to serve you and your family. Happy Tuesday!

Rutherford Bench Cabernet from the same people who brought you Cape Charles!
04.09.2021
2018 Darley Rutherford Bench Proprietary Red
winestore. Price: $29.99
Lowest Price in the US!
We continue to recommend using our website (HERE) and choosing in store / curbside pickup, and we will walk your order out and place it in your car
I’m hoping you’re beginning to see a pattern here. If Baron Ziegler brings us the juice, it is going to be lights out good.
Cape Charles will go down as one of the best we have ever offered. Never before have we had so many customers come back for 2+ case return purchases. By that I mean the number of customers who bought some, took it home and tasted it, and then purchased over 24+ bottles right after they tried it.
Today we have something equally as compelling. In our 10 years of working with Baron on these projects, this is the first time he was not willing to tell us where he got the juice. Only that it came from the Rutherford Bench and once we tasted it there would be no question we would want it. He was unwilling to compromise his contact, as the fruit source was too important to him.
The Rutherford Bench, if you’re not familiar, is basically like ground zero for Napa. Think Lail, Cakebread, Caymus (originally), Far Niente, Grgich Hills etc. Back in 1988 when a group of Rutherford Bench wineries were thinking about trying to establish an AVA for the area, the original committee was made up of wineries BV, Far Niente, Flora Springs, Harlan, Inglenook, Robert Mondavi, and Pine Ridge, and growers Tom and Martha May, Ren Harris, Robin Lail, Bob and Alex Phillips, Barney and Belle Rhodes, and Shari and Garen Staglin. So we’re talking the tippy top of the wine power pyramid here. I’ve included a map below of the current day stretch drive of the bench. You are probably familiar with some of the names.
All we got in return was a text with the below photo, this emoji 💥, and several bad words that we are not able to repeat here. We felt like our initial belief in the quality here was justified :)
If you love big red wine like we do, the color from that glass alone is probably calling your name.
All we can tell you is get while the gettin' is good.

Breakout star for $9.99 is back!

Maybe the breakout star for us in 2020 was Chazeaux. We sent you an e-mail about it one time in 2020 and you all clearly like what you tasted the first time you bought it. You came back for more and more to the tune of over 20,000 bottles.
That kind of sales velocity matched with the global supply issues going on right now (container shortage anyone?) sent the wine out of stock for almost the entire first quarter of 2021.
Well, we are here to announce to you that the wine is back! Prepare to buy your favorite inexpensive Pinot with abandon.
Beuchottes hails from the Languedoc-Roussillon, a region of France where Pinot Noir can prosper, but only in the cooler spots. As you have probably guessed, the components for this little gem come from some of the coolest areas in the region. That said, the main goal here was to marry a traditional and elegant French style of winemaking while highlighting some of the vibrant complexity you find in larger reds from the Languedoc - and Beuchottes accomplishes that in spades.
TGIF everyone!
Let's get to it!

This is one of the most high quality Sauvignon Blanc finds we have uncovered in some time, and it is rolling in just in time for warmer (I mean it is sloooowly getting warmer) weather.
The gang behind Valkyrie has pretty much carved a space out for themselves; their California efforts have fueled their successes beyond their humble start-up and now, after killing it with the AVERÆN project in Oregon, they’re hard at work in Washington.
They’ve grabbed some vineyards in Walla Walla Valley, Red Mountain and Horse Heaven Hills and we’re lucky enough to get in on these early efforts. There’s not a lot of Sauvignon Blanc grown in these spots – far less than there should be. But what is there produces wine like this one: poised, more bright melon and citrus - just the way it should be.
Pairs well with Easter brunch, a cool evening on the patio, binge watching Netflix (anyone got any new shows?) and pretty much anything else you can think of...
If you love crisp, dry white wine - do not miss.

Honestly, we can't help ourselves. We just love doing deals.
So many people have been asking over the last several months "When is Benières going back on sale?" and we're all like "Probably Memorial Day" and finally we just decided - "Let's give the people what they want."
We told you back in December that Benières Pinot Noir and Chardonnay didn't win the voting here for our Wine of the Year, but maybe they should have. That we were not sure there is any brand we carry more on fire than Benieres - and that there is no brand bringing more thunder when it comes to the quality / price ratio than these wines right now.
The guy who wrote the review above about the Benières Pinot Noir clearly agrees 😂 My guess is he is buying a case at this price.
As always, thank you for your support. We work hard every single day to bring you the best possible customer service, the greatest quality wines, and the lowest possible prices...and it is because of you that we are able to make that happen.
You guys know the drill! Let's do this!

You all will be drinking the very first bottles of this Viognier ever sold in the United States, and we put it on sale for $7.99 to celebrate!
We've opined time and time again here that we need more sub $10 wine in our lives, and this one is checking all of the boxes for me and then some.
We’re familiar with Viognier, right? Ten years ago, probably not. More than a half century ago the grape was forgotten; near extinct. Certainly, two or three decades ago, only a few were true believers. But amongst them were some California and Australia winemakers.
In the 1980s, especially in California vineyards, things blew up, with acreages tripling and quintupling and other terms I’ve forgotten. There were a few successes, but many were too ripe, unbalanced and often as not smothered in new oak, like that helped. It might be unfair to say, but most in the second wave just didn't do justice to the grape or that first group of winemakers. The pioneering wineries like Alban Cellars did first rate work. On their heels, others like Calera made well-balanced aromatic versions – they knew they needed less ripeness to achieve their aim. The French too know well that the grape has to be in the right spot; the northern Rhone offers a small bit of acreage. Winegrowers have found the ideal and specific conditions in other places over the last thirty years, as the Viogniers of the northern Rhone have become pricey and sought-after. Elevated spots in the Pays d’Oc are this wine’s source; to a great degree this is the grape’s frontier now.
Think dry, floral, peachy fruits and plenty of zest. Pairs perfectly with Tuesday night :)
Happy Tuesday! Let's get to it!

I lied...this will be our best selling wine this year.

2017 Cape Charles Cabernet
Release Price: $155.00?
winestore. Price: $24.99 (net)
SAVE 84%
We continue to recommend using our website (HERE) and choosing in store / curbside pickup, and we will walk your order out and place it in your car.
I know what I'm drinking this weekend.
TGIF!
