End of Season Rosé Blowout / Closeout!
October 20th - October 25th, 2020
ALL WEEK LONG!
It's that time of year! You might need some wine for trick or treating evening, or for the
upcoming Holidays, or for the upcoming election :) or just because...and rosé always seems like a good option to me!
Rosé has basically become a year round sensation at this point, but that doesn't stop our suppliers from being scared to have the product over the winter months. It's like they don't even know rosé is the ultimate Thanksgiving pairing!
Hey - their loss is your / our gain, as we took advantage of some end of season distributor closeouts and have, of course, passed the savings on to you guys. It's just how we roll. Oh - we're also bringing these to you at the lowest online prices in the United States :)
We continue to recommend using our website (HERE) and choosing in store / curbside pickup, and we will walk your order out and place it in your car.

If you stick around the wine business long enough, you’ll have seen it all. Where once wine coolers were cooler than Liebfraumilch, now hard seltzer is hot (served cold). White Zin was once de rigeur, though it was never French; it was from the good ol’ US of A. But then that became too sweet and the category died. Or seemed to. Because then rosé rose up like a zombie eager for fresh meat, though the current iteration of the pink stuff is more often French than not. Provence is the epicenter of it and the French have figured out how we
like it: dry, pale pink, light and refreshing.

Grenache is a remarkable grape with the ability to generate rich, dark and powerful wine when the crop yields are modest, but just as equally it can make vast quantities of pleasant wine, with less color but vibrantly fruity aromas. As a basis for rosé, it’s very nearly perfect, and it’s been the grape of choice for southernFrench rosés for a century or more. A touch of texture, some brief gratings of black peppercorns and lots of raspberries and strawberries.

Truth be told, Grenache makes a reasonably tasty rosé but it’s never complete without some Cinsault. Why? Cinsault is floral, with red cherries and plums as the through line between the
two grapes. Syrah brings the strawberries and raspberries, but Cinsault gives to the blend a cranberry finish.

It may seem oxymoronic but there is such a thing as the "best place for rosé wine." The Mediterranean coast of France has been making delicious pink wine for generations. Maybe it's
just because tourists everywhere need something that's easy to drink. Or maybe it's because sunny Mediterranean France creates wines that combine fruitiness and tangy refreshment.

Dry rose is the flavor of the moment, and southern France is the style's birthplace and homeland. A refreshing blend of Mourvedre and Grenache Gris, more complex than most any dry rose you've ever had.

A wine bottle that is safe for the pool, beach, boat or basically anything summer related?! A rosé that is dry, fruity, full and just right?! I’ll admit I was skeptical that this might just be a little bit of a gimmick, but one taste confirmed for me these people have figured out exactly what I need!

Long time customers here at winestore. know that when we get a lower price, you get a lower price - it is one of the foundations of our business model. So we are pleased to tell you...
It's back! The most popular Chardonnay deal of Spring has come back out of nowhere, and we are ready to roll into the weekend with Frank Family Chardonnay for only $25!
Before this deal came back in spring of 2020, the last time we had Frank Family Chardonnay offered for less than $25 was June 9th, 2010. So a decade ago. Everything comes full circle :)
As for the wine?
Look, let's be honest; it's cool to bash California Chardonnay because it's too big, rich, and fat to go with food. Food, schmood. How about just admitting that big, rich, and fat wines like this one are delicious to drink? If you like Rombauer, Cakebread, Pahlmeyer etc., then this is a must try.
We're not ABC here at winestore. (Anything But Chardonnay). We're ABC - All 'Bout Chardonnay.

The winemaking team behind our best selling Pinot Noir, Benières, asked us mid summer if we would like to taste their new Chardonnay? It was the first time they were going to release it in the US (up until now it had only been sold in the EU), and they
wanted to send a sample bottle. I mean, yeah, of course we are interested!
Well we tasted it, and we loved it. In a world that is awash in inexpensive wine that doesn't taste so good, we love finding wines like this!
What makes it so special?
The vast vineyards of France’s Languedoc hold many well-known grapes, including Chardonnay that is friendly and accessible. This one is gathered from organic vineyards on the Aspères plateau with its excellent marl and limestone soils. The winemaking is straightforward – stainless steel fermenters and just enough lees stirring to enrich the
texture and flavors.
is too big and rich, and French Chardonnay that is too light and crisp.
We're also gonna bring it to you at what is the lowest price available in the US - because, well, that's how we do things here :)
We hope you love it as much as we do!
Let's get to it!

When third generation vintner José Maria Vicente took over Casa Castillo it was mostly a rosemary plantation. Now it’s arguably the best winery in Spain’s burgeoning Jumilla region, where many heralded wines are coaxed out of old Garnacha and Monastrell
vines. Casa Castillo is their entry level staple, with Monastrell planted on crazy-pure gravel soils and the wine treated as if it were Chateauneuf-du-Pape.
So you guys know how we do things. Our everyday price on this Eric Solomon value is already at the lowest price in the US...but we love you guys and we just have to do more! So today through Sunday this 100% Monastrell from the crowd favorite region of Jumilla (Bodegas El Nido Clio anyone?) is only $8.99.
There's only one thing I love more than a good sub $10 wine...and that's a good sub $9 wine :)
Let's get to it!

Our 2019 Wine of the Year - New Vintage On Sale!

Release Price: $30.00
SALE Price: $17.99 (net)

Lowest Price in the US!
Sale runs Tuesday October 6th - Sunday October 11th, 2020
We continue to recommend using our website (HERE) and choosing in store / curbside pickup, and we will walk your order out and place it in your car.
The #1 breakout wine for us in the last 12 months has been Escorlada. I'm not sure any wine in recent years has put together such a great package, flavor, and price point.
So naturally we want to celebrate when the new vintage arrives, and we are doing so by putting it on sale the rest of this week!
What makes the wine so special?
Bodegas Lo Nuevo is crucial to the modern success of Spanish wine, especially wines from the Levante, the Africa-facing south. Here the Almansa region grows Garnacha, among other traditional Spanish red
grapes, but unlike the oxidized, alcoholic wines of yore, the new wines are bright and sunny with all the original fruits from the grape preserved. Lo Nuevo has few peers in this grand evolution from the
ancient and occasionally noble to something populist, fruity and modern. But they would be the first to insist that their success is conditioned upon old vines grown at high altitudes. Here the Garnacha is at nearly
3500 feet, where the otherwise relentlessly warm temperatures see nighttime cooling into the 40s.
These old garnacha vines produce BIG and RICH red wines that don't require the same price points as some of the California peers because, quite frankly, the costs to make them in Almansa are simply not as big
as they are in Napa.
So you're getting top quality stuff for very affordable prices. That may explain why the bottles essentially walk themselves right out the door :)
So I know what I'm drinking tonight - you may want to grab one too!

A couple of times this year we have gotten those "once in a" type deals as wineries continue to try and move product that was normally sold to restaurant channels.
This is one of those deals.
All across the California wine industry, Napa particularly, has been a place that attracted those wanting to fulfill their winemaking dreams and even if the businesses last a decade or two, they usually get bought up by someone else with more understanding and skills in the industry. Gus Anderson was one of the few who actually put in the hard work; sure, he was an orthodontist who decided to be one of those “hobbyists” but
Gus truly worked to understand and succeed in the business. Most importantly, he and his wife (and his son Todd) planted some extremely good vineyards and those vines are still chugging along and producing
great stuff, even if Gus is no longer with us (he passed away a few years ago). The winery to this day is still with the family, and those vineyards, and their decades of know how, are producing some absolutely
awesome wine.
So while inexpensive it is not, if you want a ridiculous deal on a Napa Valley icon to help get you through until
the election :) , you may want to grab a few bottles. I know I am!
Happy Wednesday!

We are always, and I mean ALWAYS, on the lookout for delicious wine that costs less than $10...because let's be honest, there is a lot of not so delicious wine out there for less than $10.
No matter where it comes from, wine is somebody’s passion. Whether it’s the product of a tiny garagista, or a brand residing in the portfolio of an obsessive importer. In truth, most of the international wines that have achieved great fame are only in the U.S. because some crazy importer (I’m looking at you, Eric Solomon) decided they just had to show it to wine lovers.
Convinced that American enthusiasts haven’t yet understood the potential of Argentine wine, here we have two guys in the Midwest that started this import company back in 2010 and they were smart. They focused on grapes they knew they could bring to market at a winning price (hello $9.99!), or at least draw people’s attention – it didn't hurt that they partnered with good wineries. They also jumped on strange and unusual varieties from Italy; they played around in a good way.
This Malbec is from Argentina, of course, because if you were trying to bring really good Malbec to the US at the best price, well, you wouldn’t go to California. And Malbec is two things: so friendly that it positively gushes with enthusiasm, and rather demanding in that it wants you to put some damned meat on the grill. Right now.
So get some Hamburgers, get some Malbec and let's party like its 1999 :) - or really party like it is any year other than 2020.
Let's get to it!

The hottest Chardonnay deal of 2020 is back in stock - so let's kick off October the right way...with some crazy dealing!
With all of the inventory issues constantly plaguing Rombauer Carneros Chardonnay, we knew of another Carneros Chardonnay that we were finally able to work to a similar (and even lower than Rombauer!) price point...and let's just say when we released this deal last year, things took off like a rocket ship.
If you’ve ever been a fan of Far Niente Chardonnay, then you have surely bumped into Nickel & Nickel, their single vineyard designated bottlings that comprise some of the sources for Far Niente’s long time near-cultish Chardonnay. These are big, expansive, layered Chardonnays, with plenty of oak spice and butter, never for the faint of heart or shy of wallet. This version is sourced from the Truchard Vineyard, a proven spot for excellent, even structured Napa Carneros Chardonnay.
Happy Thursday and can we believe it is October?!

Only 135 cases of this wine were produced - and we bought every last one of them :) Now we're down to our last 20.
What made this one so special?
We met with Nicolas Vellas of Domaine Vellas in early March in NYC (right before things went off the rails) to taste some of his new wines, and without question the most interesting one was L’Oeil du Tigre or “Tiger Eye”
Nero Antica is not a grape you’ve heard of. Frankly, it’s not a grape we've heard of either, and the really smart people who’ve made it their life’s work (Jose Vouillamoz, particularly) haven't anything to offer other than rumors as well. But this 4th generation Languedoc producer apparently rescued or found this grape in their vineyards and brought a small group of the plants back to life. It is the only planting of Nero Antica that we can confirm (and we've done a significant amount of searching!)
This varietal makes absolutely gigantic wine and the yields on these old vines are very low, so in this case it is blended with Grenache to create a more nuanced balance. Make no mistake though, this wine is huge.
This is the first time Vellas has produced this wine, and we bought the entire production of it - all 135 cases :)
For the inaugural bottling they chose a collectors bottle (picture below) and all bottles are hand waxed.
So if you're like me and looking for something delicious, exciting and unique - this is certainly on the "do not miss" list.
TGIF!

Our Best Selling Chianti is Back In Stock!

2018 Poggio Scalette Chianti Classico
Release Price: $19.99

Lowest Online Price in the USA!
We continue to recommend using our website (HERE) and choosing in store / curbside pickup, and we will walk your order out and place it in your car.
Last year we told you guys this was the
best Italian value we had ever carried - and apparently you all agreed.
We ran out, the distributor ran out, and the winery ran out - all in
just 6 short months. I mean, there is good reason...Poggio Scalette
delivers everything you could want in a Chianti Classico in spades - and
for under $15.
If you drink much Chianti, you’ve probably run into Il Carbonaione, a
delicious and vibrant Sangiovese made by the great Vittorio Fiore. It‘s
his signature wine for the Poggio Scalette estate, which takes its name
from the stone walls supporting the vineyards that appear very much like
a series of steps. Fiore took over the estate in 1991, abandoned like
much of old Chianti until the 80s and 90s. These old vines represent the
first planted after World War I, comprised of an older clone called
Sangiovese di Lamole. But don't get the impression that the wines are
Old School (not that there’s anything wrong with it, like Seinfeld used
to say). The Poggio Scalette Chianti is super bright with very intense
red fruit, and speaks well of the great modernization of Chianti that
has altered its hoary fortunes over the last decade or two.
So we're back in action. Buy with abandon :)

We continue to recommend using our website (HERE) and choosing in store / curbside pickup, and we will walk your order out and place it in your car.
Recently we met with one of the biggest importers of French wine into the US, and they asked us if we had anything worth noting. We gave them a bottle of this wine to try, and then really thought nothing of it.
Fast forward a few weeks and they called us asking for more. They were blown away and even opined "This is as good as some $50 Chateauneuf-du-Pape!"
Of course, we agree with them. This wine really is something special, and it got us thinking, "Is this the best value in the entire store?"
So of course, we are going to lower the price even further this weekend - and at $10.99 per bottle you are going to want to get you some of this :)
What is the deal with the wine?
Everybody says that wines are made in the vineyard, and it is certainly true that the wines can only be as good as the grapes they're made from. But what about the vines themselves? Could you do any better than to get vines from the best possible nursery? How about if the vineyard is owned by the nursery itself? That’s the tale with the family Barnier, who have vineyards in Vacqueyras and Castillon, among other areas, but who tend over three million vines in their nursery, acting as an important source for grapevines in the southern Rhone and beyond.
This Grenache and Syrah blend is proof positive that in wine, like food, the ingredients and even the source of the ingredients can lead to outstanding results!
TGIF everyone!

When a winemaker creates a wine that takes the wine world by storm, then leaves to develop another project that sells for half the price, we usually take note. Apparently a lot of other people do too, as evidenced by the press Kevin Judd receives at New Zealand powerhouse Greywacke. I mean articles in Forbes, Jancis Robinson, just to name a few can give you adequate background on the power Judd wields in the wine business.
What's the deal with Greywacke Sauvignon Blanc?
It’s probably debatable whether or not soils have a strong influence on Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. Instead it’s clear that proximity to the ocean and wind is the important thing because, the more sheltered your vineyard, the more likely you’re going to get hammered by frost damage at some point. And yet the conversation around soil has merit; “greywacke” is the region’s most prized bedrock and Kevin Judd has hitched his notable star to this part of Marlborough and named his winery after it. He built Cloudy Bay into a sexy enough winery that LVMH bought it. He’s building something similar at Greywacke.
If New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc is your thing (or, I mean, if awesome white wine is your thing), this is a cannot miss wine.
Let's do this!

Let's lay it all down on the line here. If pinot grigio, pinot gris, or just light white wine is your thing, you're going to want to get involved here. This is the lowest price we have ever been able to offer Four Graces Pinot Gris!
What's up with the wine? Why are we so excited?
Oregon vineyards are a prized thing; while California seems to be able to plant vineyards anywhere and everywhere, Oregon vineyards require at least 400 feet in elevation, though it is probably better to be above 600 feet to protect from frost, and there aren’t that many sites that fit the bill. It helps to be from the area; the local Black family purchased an existing vineyard in the Dundee Hills of the Willamette Valley in 2003 as a family retreat and named the estate in honor of the Black's four daughters – the Four Graces. Bill Foley, who has rather quietly taken ownership of many, many, many wineries and vineyards up and down the West Coast, bought this place too. But like everything Foley does, he improves the work. In the past, the wines were pleasing but light and perhaps a bit inconsequential. Now with winemaker and native Oregonian Tim Jones in charge the wines have taken on weight and density.
So you can imagine when you get increased quality with lower prices - we get very, very excited.
Only caveat - we only have 300 cases at this price - so get while the gettin' is good!
As always, THANK YOU for your business. It is an honor and a privilege to serve you each and every day.
Happy Tuesday!

What's up with the wine?
Robert Oatley was a pretty amazing cat, but we lost him a few years ago. Things continue on at the winery and, as will happen when you have a bunch of creative people without the big boss around to tell you to calm the heck down, people are trying all sorts of blends, like this one.
With 90% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Touriga Nacional, the powerful side of Cabernet Sauvignon is slightly altered by the floral character of Touriga. The Hancock and Hancock part of the name reflects the decades long participation of Chris Hancock (an honorary Master of Wine, itself a rarity), who has guided the efforts of the Oatley wineries throughout its wildly successful run. It’s impossible to overstate Chris’ brilliance and if he drops his name on something, bet on it. The other Hancock on the label is Chris’ brother John. They are working with fruit from “La Colline”, a vineyard on Chalk Hill Road northeast of the McLaren Vale township which is moderately warm, as opposed to some of the cooler sites closer to the ocean.
Let's do this!
