One thing I’ve learned after doing this for over 17 years is that there is relatively little difference in the vinification methods between $25 wines and $250 wines…sometimes you’re just paying for overhead.

So anytime we come across a co-op that has access to some insane vineyard sites, uses top flight barrels, and yet keeps prices reasonable - we’re gonna take a hard look. Some of the best wines in the world started as a Co-op. Ever heard of Clos Erasmus or L’Ermita? 👀

Enter Vignerons de Saint Marc - Canteperdrix.

We tasted some of their lineup way back in February, and the Vinsobres and Vacqueyras were absolute show stoppers. I mean, the others were really good - but these two were really good.

We then found out we could get the Vacqueyras, by far the best of the group, to the US for 50% off the release price (see below)…and that is when things really started to get interesting.

We got an order together that just arrived two weeks ago and after tasting a bottle once it landed in the US, I could not be more excited to offer these to you guys.

These wines, much like the Florets Gigondas we offered to you a few weeks ago, represent everything I love about the wine business right now. When we started in this business, we simply did not have access to this quality of juice at these prices.

So if you’re like me and are looking for more delicious and collectible Rhone options you can share with family and friends and they don’t break the bank, this is right in that wheelhouse.

At $24.99 per bottle the value is just silly.

Weekend wine? Check!

TGIF!

We hit the point last weekend where so many people had asked "Why isn't Benières part of the Labor Day sale?!?!?", that we just decided we had to go ahead and put it on sale this week.

Our #1 goal here is to give the people what they want - so here we go!

We told you back in December 2022 that for the 3rd year in a row Benières Pinot Noir and Chardonnay didn't win the voting here for our Wine of the Year, but maybe they should have. That we were not sure there is any brand we carry more on fire than Benieres - and that there is no brand bringing more thunder when it comes to the quality / price ratio than these wines right now.

The guy who wrote the review above about the Benières Pinot Noir clearly agrees 😂 My guess is he is buying a case at this price.

As always, thank you for your support. We work hard every single day to bring you the best possible customer service, the greatest quality wines, and the lowest possible prices...and it is because of you that we are able to make that happen.

You guys know the drill! Let's do this! Happy Wednesday all!

It's the last Friday of summer, and the only way to celebrate that, especially when the weather will be as nice as I can remember it for a Labor Day weekend, is with an Epic Deal.

And what deal is that, you ask?

2020 Darley Knights Valley Proprietary Red for $19.99.

How do we know you all absolutely love this deal?

Last time we ran this wine, at this price, you all bought 96 cases of it in 8 hours. 👀

So what is the deal here? (lots of questions this morning 😂)

You may now be familiar with the name Baron Ziegler. He’s the wine legend who has brought us juice from some of the biggest names in California wine, at prices we've never seen before. He also made waves last year when he and winemaker Pax Mahle purchased 162 acres of what may be the best Syrah vineyards in California. You can read more about that purchase here and here. (Don’t worry I’m getting us in on that!) The wines we have been able to deliver through Baron in the last 18 months have been crazy.

Darley is 100% Knights Valley juice that Baron has bottled for us under his Darley label. If you’ve been to wine country you’ve most likely been in Knights Valley and didn’t even know it. It is the last AVA on the east side of Sonoma County, right next to Calistoga and is home to some names you know - Montelena, Peter Michael, Morlet Family Wines, and Anakota wines to just name a few.

Here’s what I can tell you:
- The release price for the juice in this wine is $75.00 per bottle
- The winemaker has multiple 100 point scores under his belt - he cut his teeth at Buccella and Continuum before moving to this property.
- The juice comes from one of the most famous names in Knights Valley

TGIF everyone! Let's do this!!

My wife and I love nice Chardonnay...but for weeknight wines, the really nice stuff is not in our budget.

The wine I have potentially been most excited for in 2023 is Maison Belliac Chardonnay: 1) Because I love good Chardonnay and 2) It's something both my wife and I love to drink so we can share the bottle!

Maison Belliac, when we first tasted it, I thought was a dead ringer for high end California Chardonnay - and last weekend I decided to put that to the test.

We opened a bottle of our favorite - Kistler Chardonnay - and tasted it next to Maison Belliac. So can a Chardonnay we have on sale this Labor Day Weekend for $9.99 taste just like an $80 bottle of Kistler Chardonnay?

The answer is - no. 🤣

While it doesn't taste exactly the same, it does taste extremely close.

And given Kistler is 10x the price of Maison Belliac - to me this is a huge win.

Full transparency? My wife could not tell the difference between the two. Which disappointed her on one hand, and then when she realized she loved this wine potentially just as much she got excited for our potential savings 😂

Will it age gracefully and does it have cellar potential? Absolutely not (or at least I don't think so).

Does it over deliver for the price by a HUGE multiple - it does.

So what is happening here?

When the French decided to build the Canal du Midi, they unsurprisingly chose a portion of the Pays d’Oc that is flatter and less mountainous than much of the regional landscape. Indeed, the Canal’s construction saw some smoothing out of the countryside and in some portions, they’ve created the conditions for low-lying vineyards that were cooled by Mediterranean breezes.

Since they’re growing Chardonnay in this site, it helps that the ground is mostly calcareous marl, the sort of well-drained limestone and clay that typifies the Burgundy region far away. The climate is different, needless to say, but not so very different from sunny California, and the wine has some of that same buttery character that West Coast Chardonnay exemplifies.

So there you go!

I know what I'm drinking tonight!!

We mentioned that this week we are going to be celebrating the fact that there is no better time to be a wine drinker that is looking for high quality mixed with value than right now, and a perfect example of this is Larme en Rose Rosé. Garnering a higher rating on Vivino (here) than Whispering Angel at more than half the price - this is the kind of wine we love getting behind!

Why is the wine so special?

Well, if you stick around the wine business long enough, you’ll have seen it all. Where once wine coolers were cooler than Liebfraumilch, now hard seltzer is hot (served cold). White Zin was once de rigeur, though it was never French; it was from the good ol’ US of A. But then that became too sweet and the category died. Or seemed to. Because then rosé rose up like a zombie eager for fresh meat, though the current iteration of the pink stuff is more often French than not. Provence is the epicenter of it and the French have figured out how we like it: dry, pale pink, light and refreshing.

Larme has all this and more in spades.

So lets get to it!

Happy Tuesday All!

This 100% Caladoc wine is barrel-fermented, though it is still recognizably rosé in style. Needless to say, barrel-fermented rosé is anomalous anywhere, much less in southern France. The barrels are over-sized, and the wine has no added sulfur or added yeast. Dry, clean and rather full for a rosé, you can nonetheless drink it chilly on a sunny day, just like you would the rest of the rosés you’re slamming this summer.

Lake County lies just to the north of Napa, and while it shares none of the fame of its southern sibling, it’s a sleeper region for Cabernet. That might be why Napa legend Andy Beckstoffer started investing in the region, purchasing a 1,200-acre vineyard that he calls Amber Knolls in the Red Hills AVA. That’s where this comes from and, if it’s good enough for Andy Beckstoffer, Napa’s most important wine grower, then it’s good enough for us too.

Over four generations of winemaking, the Vellas family have slowly assembled a strong group of properties in Languedoc and Roussillon. I know, I know, Zinfandel is the same grape as Italy’s Primitivo. But is it? Even the best Primitivo doesn’t have the fruitiness, the power, the sheer intensity of California’s best Zins. And how do we describe that fruitiness? I always find that it has something like more red fruits than black fruits, with a little hint of red currant jelly right at the end that is part of the easy friendliness of the grape.

We argue about vintages and that’s because we don’t all like the same style of wines. You may hate Napa Cabernet in 2011 because you think they're weak and insipid; I might find them elegant and sleek. You might champion Napa Cab 2013s; most people do. I might complain that some are too ripe. But 2020 is one of those vintages that makes fans of us all. Sonoma Cabernet in 2020 has richness but also balance. Check out Darley’s 2020 Knights Valley Cab and make your own mind up.

To most, the Languedoc is a large scale region with small scale ambitions. Even more importantly, there are ancient vineyards in the Languedoc that didn't get grubbed up and replaced with newer, sexier clones. Older vines have survived, and in the best spots, the climate is conducive to long life, and those vines that have provided the grapes for this wine have long been grown organically.

Most Americans have no idea how great the Beaujolais region has become. The last two decades have seen it grow, crafting some of the most intriguing AND affordable wines of France. It’s important to understand not all Beaujolais is the same, if you think Beaujolais Nouveau represents the character of Beaujolais, you’re dead wrong. Like the best Beaujolais, Julienas is firm, intense, tannic and nothing at all like the simple fruity wine from past.

Cabardès has not always been a favored site but its intense limestone soils are beginning to consistently offer Burgundy-like nerve. It’s tasty wine, but maybe the best part of the story is that Cabardès is named for the 13th Century Lords of Cabaret – seriously. Picture Joel Grey or Alan Cumming astride white stallions, swords a-glinter in the sunlight, horses prancing. Okay, you just can’t un-see that image, can you? Gascony ain't just the Three Musketeers, though they have a place in our hearts as well. More than anything, Gascony is foie gras, delicious plums and apricots, rich dinners with Armagnac to follow. But the white grapes grown here are not just for great brandy, they have always been consumed as wine too and the last decade or so has seen an embrace of clean, cold winemaking to preserve the aromas of otherwise neutral grapes like Ugni Blanc or Folle Blanche. It's also seen new plantings of Sauvignon Blanc, a grape that requires no heroic measures to reveal its aromatic riches. Whats fun here is that these same winemaking methods generate something bright and vibrant but without much resemblance to other such Sauvignon Blancs (I'm looking at you, New Zealand), many of which have begun to seem like self-caricature. This one is comfortably itself, needing only an ice bucket and a big glass.

Among the diverse operations the Vellas family manages on their estates in Languedoc and Roussillon is an equestrian center and a “Manades” or farm where they breed Camargue bulls, bred solely for the "course camarguaise" (Camargue style of bullfighting). It’s not the bloody affair that we associate with bullfighting (at least, that’s the goal). In the arena, the bull gives chase with a dozen “razeteurs” (Camargue bullfighters) who try to remove a cockade that has been attached between its horns with strings. Not for the faint of heart. The wine too is a big, bold blend from the highly regarded Costiere de Nimes AOP – horns not included.

The massive Pays d’Oc covers the greater part of Mediterranean France. After the railroad was built, linking the south to Paris, wines of the Languedoc filled the carafes of Parisian bistros, and they still do today. But the last century has seen vast improvements to the wines that once were built only for value. The rest is traditionally made; though used and funky barrels are no longer the norm in the Languedoc, where this tasty wine is crafted.

Maybe one of the better high end deals we have seen all summer lands today!

The Trefethen family are true Napa royalty; indeed, I used to advise any visitors to watch their manners when visiting. Like don’t lean your elbows on the table and don’t talk with your mouth full. You know, the stuff mom told you. But aside from observing the proprieties, the Trefethens honor their grandmother with this wine, a Welsh woman who was “the original inspiration for our estate in Napa Valley’s Oak Knoll District”. The label is adorned with the symbol of Wales, “Y Ddraig Goch”, or Dragon’s Tooth. It’s mostly Malbec (with some Petit Verdot, Cab Sauv and Merlot) from the rockiest part of the vineyard.

I like drinking nicer wines on the weekend. You know, like a nice treat after a crazy week at work 👀 - and it makes it that much more fun when I can get a deal like this.

$35 per bottle is not inexpensive by any stretch of the imagination. but when I do pay these prices I want the wine to over deliver - and Dragon's Tooth does that and a whole lot more.

So let's kick the weekend off right, shall we?

TGIF!

I know what I'm drinking tonight (and honestly maybe tomorrow night too!)

I'll just start by saying that Sancerre Rosé for under $20 is somewhat of a unicorn wine right now, so take that as you will.

Even if your expectation of Sancerre is of Sauvignon Blanc, please understand that Pinot Noir is the next most planted grape in the region, and that it can be lovely and focused, not at all the soft, diffuse rosé wine you might also be expecting. Vintner Anthony Girard has owned this forty-acre plot since 2012 and has quickly garnered justifiable attention for all his wines.

We have his 100% Pinot Noir rosé because we want you to enjoy summer and these 100 degree temperatures the way they are meant to be enjoyed, with something cold and delicious. And if it matters to you, this is also vegan. Just saying.

So let's keep it short and sweet today, shall we?

Recap?

- It's crazy hot out side? Correct.
- Ice cold elusive Sancerre Rosé? Check
- Lowest Price in the US? But of course

I know what I'm drinking tonight!

Is this the best value Cabernet in the store?

Wine legends Baron Ziegler and Rob Fischer have been making Snowvale Cabernet for over a decade, but the 2021 vintage I think will go down as they best the have ever produced.

That's also saying something - as Snowvale has remained our top selling Cabernet for the last 5 years running 👀

So to celebrate the arrival of the new vintage we are putting it on sale for $9.99 per bottle - and Baron and Rob have told us this will be the only time we will be able to offer this wine at $9.99 in 2023. This is not a drill!!

Snowvale at $9.99 represents a pretty unreal value. As we've told you before, there are even stores in NC selling this wine for $31! (Picture below)

In an ocean full of uninspiring Cabernet at this price point, Snowvale just works. Tuesday night Tacos? Boom. Wednesday night burgers. Done. Saturday night Netflix. But of course. (anyone watching anything that is must see?)

So let the mayhem begin!

Happy Tuesday all!

This out drinks every Sancerre in the store...

Extreme weather of late has been particularly disruptive to the great Sauvignon Blanc wines of the Loire Valley. Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé, once ubiquitous on shelves and wine lists, are getting hard to find today.....and if you do happen to find them, they are much harder to afford.

That is why when we stumble upon a producer like Antoine Lafarge and his incredible stable of affordable yet high quality wines, we almost can't contain ourselves.

One of the best examples of his talent? His 2022 Pouilly-Fumé Sauvignon Blanc.

- Same taste as Sancerre? Oh yeah.
- Same grape as Sancerre? 100%
- Same price as Sancerre? This is where things get exciting

Like all of Antoine’s wines, this is organically farmed and skillfully crafted. The region now offers powerful and fruity Sauvignon Blanc, not at all like those of New Zealand. People lament that climate change has altered wines, but Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé are often fruitier and more fun to drink as the weather heats up. And just like Sancerre, the soils in Pouilly Fumé are a mix of Kimmeridgian limestone and the even more famed soil, silex. Silex deserves its fame; it provides tension and complexity to the aromatic Sauvignon Blanc grape.

All of this goodness in one bottle and then shipped across the pond, and we can bring it to you at the lowest price ever offered in the United States - $19.99 per bottle.

So if Sancerre is your thing, or Sauvignon Blanc is your thing or just great white wine is your thing - this is a run, don't walk type of situation. Why? Because even though we found this diamond, quantities are still scarce.

So let's get while the gettin' is good!

Happy Thursday all!

Over the last four or five decades the generic term of Cotes du Rhone Villages has given way to a collection of villages that stand above the others; Gigondas was the first and Sablet is now included among those that are allowed to append their village name on to the label. Comprised of Grenache and Syrah, these are wines that represent the ever improving fortunes of the southern Rhone Valley, and with every year, they creep closer and closer to the character and style of Chateauneuf-du-Pape, only at much more affordable prices.

For me, I LOVE Chateauneuf du Pape. LOVE it. I wish I could drink it all the time....but like $40+ bottles of wine are not in my "everyday" wine budget. That is why wines like this get me fired up. This wine has all the hallmarks of great Chateauneuf - without the Chateauneuf price tag.

So I'll keep it short and sweet today. If either of these things apply to you:

- I love Chateauneuf or Rhone Red Wine
- I love extremely high quality wine for less than $15 that also happens to be lowest price in the entire US

I would give this a try. I'm in for 6, and I'm drinking one tonight!

We have some new wines that just arrived from Langtry Farms Vineyard & Winery and as part of that deal we were able to get another pop of Lillie's Collection for you at $9.99 per bottle.

There are two things to know here: one of them is that this wine for $9.99 represents some pretty unreal value and a is a real testament to what Northern California is still capable of in terms of affordable yet delicious red and white wine.

The other thing to know?

So there was a wine made by a Guenoc Winery and Langtry Winery partnership called "Lillie's Collection Victorian Claret" for a California wine powerhouse called BevMo.

Guenoc and Langtry decide to split up. Langtry owns the trademark to "Lillie's Collection". Guenoc owns the trademark to "Victorian Claret".

Potential problem? Indeed.

Langtry continues producing the wine for BevMo but has to put "Red Wine" on the label instead of "Victorian Claret". BevMo says that doesn't work - now they don't want the wine anymore. (notice how on Bevo's website it still says "Victorian Claret 👀)

...one thing leads to another and next thing you know we get to offer you this wine at an absolutely silly price. Like we've said many times, the wine business is a weird place.

Langtry Farms was originally founded back in the 19th Century by entertainer Lillie Langtry, who purchased 4,200 acres in Northern California around 1888. Today, Langtry Estate makes up over 21,000 acres and is one of the largest contiguous land holdings in all of California.

Their Petite Sirah, which makes up the base of this blend, is one of the best Petite values in the North Coast. Both powerful and well balanced, it's a prime example of what stunning values can come out of the North Coast when left at the hands of a master like winemaker Eric Stine.

So $9.99 through Sunday - you guys know what to do.

I know what I'm drinking tonight!

There is nothing worse than buying a super expensive wine, sitting on it to let it “age” for a few years, and then when you open it the wine is terrible.

On the flip side of that coin, I absolutely love when some $20-$30 wines just keep getting better with age, and really outperform their price point. 2004 Mas Doix Salanques is still one of those wines for me. I bought it for $25 per bottle and almost 20 years later the wine is still absolutely crazy delicious.

The wine we have for you today will be one of those superstars, in my humble opinion.

At one of the world’s largest wine trade shows in Paris back in February we tasted through hundreds and hundreds of wines over several days (someone has to do it 😂).

We found Domaine des Florets “Alliance”, a Grenache and Syrah blend from Gigondas, at a random tasting station, and honestly after sharing 3 bottles with different friends over the last few days, I think it may be the best of the best we bought on that trip.

I tasted this wine next to 2010 Marcoux Vieilles Vignes Chateauneuf du Pape last week (and that Marcoux was one of my all timers and nearly 5x the price of this wine) and I think the Alliance was better.

The history of this estate I can’t really figure out. As far as I can tell this guy Jérôme Rathle bought the estate in 2021 after making a small fortune in sustainability services, and completely revamped the whole operation. Apparently he knows how to make wine as well, because his first attempt out of the gate is insane.

As with any small operation - the only issue is getting your hands on lots of product. We liked this wine a lot, and after several weeks of back and forth, we bought 30% of this man’s entire production…but that is only 280 cases of wine.

I honestly think anyone who drinks red wine will love this stuff, and we could not be more excited to bring it to you.

I’m in for 2 cases - one to drink now and one hopefully to try and age (if I can hold off). My guess is I’ll buy a third right before we run out, just so I have a nice stash 😂

I know what I'm drinking tonight!

What happens to Chardonnay grapes when you pair Burgundy soil conditions with California weather in a region with affordable land?

A super Chardonnay (like as in superman not just super...ok, you get what I'm saying) is born.

What is happening here?

So yeah, we've got a new arrival, and it's a Super Chardonnay.

Do you know what you're drinking tonight?

One of the best sub $15 red wines we have ever offered...

We've been waiting on this one.

This may go down, dare I say it will go down, as one of the best sub $15 red wines we have ever offered. No hyperbole. This stuff is just that special.

The first time I tasted this 100% Grenache from Colline du Bonnet I thought it tasted like a dead ringer for one of my favorite wines of all time, Alban Grenache. I'm not kidding, not even a little bit, and just for price comparison Alban Grenache, any vintage, lowest price in the US right now is $89 per bottle 👀

So how does this happen?

For most wine people, Languedoc-Roussillon is still a monolithic expanse of undifferentiated vineyards – but, as in that cartoon with the two babies peering into their diapers, “there is a difference!” Some areas see more sea influence than mountain influence; some sites are windier, and some are decidedly hotter. Colline’s Grenache vines are baked in the sun around the town of Cébazon in eastern Languedoc, and still enjoy enough of the Mediterranean breezes to retain some acidity. The winemaking is more traditional than modern (cold soaking the grapes for two days is still new thinking) but otherwise the grapes stay on the skins in vats for at least a month; then see long aging in cement cubes. It's old school winemaking that produces extreme value results.

Believe me, or don't...but if you drink any type of medium to full bodied red wine, you're gonna want to taste a bottle of this stuff.

Clearly I'm a convert - and I know what I'm drinking tonight!

Based on the number of cases that have gone out the door simply to people who had pending orders waiting on this wine to return, today could be the biggest day we've seen in 17 years of doing this.

Just since TUESDAY of this week, 293 cases of this wine have gone out the door...and we haven't really even told that many people about it 👀

So what's up here?

Easily our most popular product the last 3 years has been Cape Charles Cabernet. A label developed with Baron Ziegler (he's kind of a big deal, you can read more about him here) to take advantage of the high end left over juice, the results have been unreal. The label itself was lent to the project by artist Peter Curling - he's also kind of a big deal and you can read more about him here.

We started with Kamen Moon Mountain juice which sold out in just a few weeks. We then doubled down with 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from Leonetti in Washington State. After the Leonetti success we told Baron the next one had to be huge…and he delivered.

This 100% Cassata Vineyard Cabernet is the best wine he's released yet, and I'm not sure it is even close.

Where / what is the Cassata Vineyard?

Rancho Los Guilicos is the historical name for the Cassata family’s estate in prime Sonoma Valley territory. It’s part of the original Mexican land grant from the 1830s, administered by General Mariano Vallejo, and offered to settlers who would attempt to tame this wilderness.

Vallejo gave the grant to his sister-in-law who sold it in 1850 to William Hood; the local peak is named after him. It went through a few other hands before it was bought by Judge Carroll Cook, Superior Court Judge of San Francisco. This is when it becomes known as “Rancho El Nido” or “The Nest” and when Jack London and his love for the Valley of the Moon, as well as the Judge’s expertise with cocktails, enters the picture. London’s ranch was at the edge of the property; and Cook planted grapes to make wine.

There were only three owners through the 20th century. The Cassata family bought El Nido in 2002, and have since been dedicated to restoring its glory through bio-sustainable farming. They’ve even re-planted olive trees to make olive oil. They’ve focused the vineyard choices on the traditional areas and the grapes that belong there (like the Cabernet family) as well as grapes that have helped build its fame (like Zinfandel and Alicante Bouschet). This is the beating heart of historical Sonoma wine country!

As for prices - you’ll find Cassata Vineyard Cabernet anywhere from $53 to $105 per bottle. As far as I can tell, NEVER has this vineyard ever had wine in the 21st century that has been priced under $25.00.

So ignore at your own risk. A case is coming home with me, and we're starting the weekend off right 😁

TGIF!

Mid summer of 2022 we tasted a white wine that was utterly delicious and the price was outrageous.

So, of course, we ordered a ton of it.

5 months later the Grand Moulin Red showed up at our doorstep.

Don't get me wrong, we love the red wine - but the white wine is what we wanted. The white wine is the show stopper....and the white wine was still in France 😂.

Fast forward 7 more months and the Grand Moulin Blanc has  finally arrived, and we can't wait for you guys to try this one.

What's the deal here?

Within the vast Roussillon-Languedoc are some sweet spots – Corbières is undoubtedly one of the most important whether for red or white wines. But don’t expect Chardonnay or Sauvignon Blanc to prosper; here Grenache Blanc and Rolle are the dominant vins blancs. You might know Rolle better in its Italian iteration as Vermentino, one of the more fascinating and textured of white wines. Here the two grapes are made more floral and exotic by a shot of Roussanne, that temperamental grape of the northern Rhone.  Grown on the middle terraces below the Orbieu River, this is both full and tangy.

Is a bottle of this coming home with me tonight? Indeed it is!

Let's do this people!

Having just taken the family to the beach for summer vacation, it really astonishes me how much things continue to cost nowadays.

Like is every glass of wine now $15?

That's why I'm glad wines like Rosabelle exist. We took some with us on vacation (along with some Swimbad for the beach), and I honestly I need more delicious $10 wine in my life!

For rosé it doesn't matter as much what grapes you use, just the process. Though they need to be picked early and when they’re still tangy and tart. For Rosabelle that means Grenache and Cinsault. These days a paler style of rosé prevails, set by Provençal producers and Rosabelle is cut from that cloth.

Added bonus here? According to Vivino the average price paid for Rosabelle out there is $17.08 - and you're getting it for $9.99 per bottle.

SCORE!

If you’re into white burgundy (or any Chardonnay for that matter), you’re gonna want some of this.

On a recent buying trip back in February we sat down with Olivier Ramé to taste the latest lineup at Maison Ventenac. During that meeting one of the wines we tasted stopped us in our tracks. It was a 100% Petite Arvine called Le Batard. It was also one of the best wines we tasted the entire trip.

Ventenac is an exceptional 100% organic property. Some of the wine produced here we believe represents some of the best under $50 wine you can buy - period.

Using the grape Petite Arvine is a new project, with the wine called a ‘bastard’ on the label because Petite Arvine is a Swiss grape that few grow in France. The wine is a complete dead ringer for high end white burgundy (and I’m talking the stuff north of $100 per bottle). It is tense and minerally, fermented with native yeasts and no sulfur in Italian terracotta amphorae. It adds color, texture and complexity to this otherwise simple and refreshing grape.

My first thought after tasting it was thinking this must be what people feel like when they say stuff like “I remember when Montrachet was only $30…” and stuff like that.

The only real problem here? 2,400 bottles or 200 cases is the entire annual production.

So of course we bought 112 of them.

And after it's only been here a few weeks - there are only 35 cases left for all 8 stores. Just 420 bottles.

These will sell out today, so get while the gettin' is good!

The best Cabernet deal we've seen this year 👀 ?!?!

We saved the second part of our Newton deal for today, as it is possibly the best Cabernet deal we've seen this year - and honestly one of the best in a long time.

Much like the Skyside Chardonnay, I have to say I have no idea how long it is going to last, and Total Wine has already lost their minds once this week so there is no telling what is going to happen at this point, so let's get while the gettin' is good!!

As we told you earlier this week, Newton’s name at one time was spoken in reverent tones as, alongside Pride Mountain, Pahlmeyer, Duckhorn and a few others; this is where Merlot excelled. But then people started treating Merlot like that awkward cousin who has too much to drink and then starts talking politics at the Thanksgiving table and great work stretching back to the 1980s was somehow forgotten.

So imagine when they shifted their focus from Merlot and moved to the more popular Cabernet Sauvignon grape. The results were a great $25 Cabernet that sold like wildfire.

At $10.99 per bottle it's tough for me to put into words how insane this deal is in the wine world, especially without sounding hyperbolic. So I'll end this Friday morning by saying if Cabernet is your thing, this is a back up the truck type of situation. Anytime I can buy a Ferrari for the price of a used rental car, I'm gonna do that.

Maybe this is one time where it actually isn't too good to be true!!

TGIF!
