This gem of a wine continues to be the only wine that I have seen for $9.99 per bottle that comes in a beautiful six pack wooden box.
I mean, that kind of packaging is not inexpensive (hence the reason you normally see only very high end wines packaged this way). Heck, Justin Winery will sell you a 3 pack wooden box for $20.00 (HERE - the equivalent of $6.67 per bottle)...that is just the box.
But hey, what about the wine that is in the box, right?
Well, looking back on our 17 years of serving you (can that be right?), we have never carried much Bordeaux (it just gets too expensive relative to quality most times). In addition, I can't think of any offer we have made for a Bordeaux less than $25. Every time we taste them, they taste...well...they tend to taste cheap. Nobody wants to deal with that...
Enter Montassin...
- It's a traditional Bordeaux blend of Cabernet, Merlot, Petite Verdot and Cabernet Franc
- The wine comes with a deep, rich color but seems to focus more on elegance over power, all while losing none of the fruit character of traditional Bordeaux wine.
- It is incredibly delicious and clocks in at a very friendly 13.5% alc.
So we have a wine for 10 bucks that is packed in 6 pack wood cases from Bordeaux that brings the thunder in terms of quality. 👀
On SALE through Sunday!
I know what I'm drinking tonight!

We are constantly on the lookout for the next great value wine. You know, the stuff under $15 that really wows you.
To get to that destination though, we have to taste a lot of bad wines. Stuff that makes you think "Who thought this was a good idea?", the minute it hits your lips.
That said, on the flip side of that coin, there is a wine that makes you do a double take. You take one sip and you're kinda like "Oh, hello there...". Belleplane Red (and the Chardonnay for that matter), did that for us. It was one that we all taste at the same time and everyone kinda looks around at each other without saying anything to try and see if everybody is thinking "You gettin' what I'm gettin'...?"
What's up with the wine?
When it comes to red grapes, there are many in the Languedoc-Roussillon, an area that encompasses almost the entirety of Mediterranean France. But there are a few pockets of an unusual grape called Alicante Bouschet, one of only a handful of grapes that actually has colored juice (as opposed to the color coming from the skins). With 70% Alicante and 30% Syrah, and a half year or so in barrel, this wine is powerful, dense and chewy.
So if you've been looking for a new addition to your weekly lineup, we've found a good one for you today.
You guys know what to do!

Rombauer Chardonnay Blind Tasting This Saturday!
04.26.2023
Rombauer vs. Everyone Else Blind!
Saturday April 29th, 2023
11am - 8pm
ALL DAY LONG!
Guess Rombauer correctly and you get $8.00 in tasting credit!
Yes - we carry Rombauer Chardonnay - you can grab some by clicking here.
It's been a minute since our last Rombauer Blind Tasting...and I'm happy to report that one of the most popular tastings we host is back!!!
Important note here, Rombauer has NEVER lost this event. They've conquered every year and we have thrown every possible amazing thing we can at them! One thing I can tell you though, is this year will be the toughest competition yet. We are pulling out all the stops.
I mean, there are those of us who are absolutely sure we know the Rombauer taste, and could even pinpoint it blind. Are you with me on this? I feel like I could pick it every time. Here is our chance to put our Rombauer skills to the test!
The deal? Eight white wines will be blind on the machine - and to get through all eight wines will only be $8.00. One of those wines will be 2021 Rombauer Chardonnay and the rest will be a host of other wines that we think will give the butter and oak king of California a run for its money.
As we have done every year, an added incentive for all of you who are just super sure you can pick the Rombauer out in a lineup - should you be able to guess it correctly, we will put $8.00 back on your tasting card. That's right - you get to drink for free :)
It should be a fun tasting, so we hope to see all of you out this Saturday. As always, THANK YOU for your business. We love you guys!

We have to keep the deal train rolling into the weekend, right? And we've got a doozie for you today!
So what do you do when you're Charlie Wagner’s grandson (he made Caymus) and Chuck Wagner’s youngest son (he kinda helped too), and after you helped create Belle Glos and then Meiomi, you find yourself with a pot of money? I guess if you’re Joe Wagner, you start another winery. As a fifth generation Napa Valley winemaker, Joe had learned his way around a vineyard and winery long before he was able to drink wine. By the time he was 19, he was in it up to his elbows. In 2014, he took the big step of forming Copper Cane Wines & Provisions.
Copper Cane, his post Meiomi project (more like a succession of wineries) is sprouting brands like social media breeds conspiracy theories. Böen is one of his Pinot Noir obsessions (think Belle Glos) and the style is reminiscent of the Caymus mentality: lush, supple, ripe and rich.
So today we have:
- Pinot Noir from the people that brought you Belle Glos for under $20
- Lowest Price in the US
- It is Friday 😂
I know what I'm drinking tonight! TGIF!

One thing we've heard a lot over the last few weeks, is that people have been loving the list of crazy values available right now. It's almost as if you guys are just like me, and you can't get enough delicious $7.99 wine in your life 😂
So we're gonna keep the value train running, and one of my weeknight staples is pulling into the station.
I'm still amazed that value like this is floating around out there, and if we have anything to do with it that will continue to be the case!
Rioja, Spain’s oldest and best-known red wine quality region, is undergoing massive change, all of it good. New upstarts are challenging the old guard - and Bodegas Lo Nuevo is right in the mix. Their wonderful Rioja wines reflect the character of old vines from ancient vineyards, honestly and correctly made. Pocapita offers 100% Tempranillo, powerful, compact, and oh so easy drinking.
So if you're into wines that outdrink their price point, this is a must try. For me, Pocapita offers the perfect compliment to some of the deeper and darker reds in my lineup (I'm looking at you, Carmita). It's also at the price where I can grab a case, drink at home, bring over to the cookout etc.
You guys know what to do!

When it gets this hot outside, it gets me thinking about swimming pools, beaches (not the movie), summertime, beach music and...of course...rosé.
While rosé has now become a year 'round beverage, it really shines and struts its stuff in the hot weather.
Enter the new 2022 Brunn Rosé - made from the Zweigelt grape...one you may not have heard of, but now you're in the know.
Karl and Godfried Steinschaden’s family has lived and farmed the land in Engabrunn for six generations. With traditional practices in the winery, and organic farming being adopted, they are all about how the past can inform the present. They own the oldest traditional basket press in this region, dating back to 1564 A.D. It was originally used by the Benedictine Abbey of Gottweig near Krems, but now is used in this crafty winery, north of the Danube, in Kamptal, to make a charming, pinkish expression of the vibrant Zweigelt grape.
Added bonus to all this? It comes in a 1 Liter bottle - so more bang for your buck!
Mid 80s across most of North Carolina today! I know what I'm drinking tonight!

We tried Gail "Doris" Cabernet for the first time two years ago. It was a random sample sent to us a in box full of random samples, and all I can tell you is that for $20 this wine was on point. It was one of the best Cabernets we tried in all of 2021.
Added bonus? It is organic and 100% single vineyard fruit.
You all seemed to agree, as we ran out of the wine in 3 weeks. Second vintage came around - and it was the same story. Fast sell out, and delicious wine.
So today we super pleased to be able to tell you - the 2021 vintage has finally arrived!
You can read more about Gail Wines HERE, but long story short is this: Dan O’Brien is a working class Boston area fellow who fell into the wine trade via the restaurant biz. He moved to the Bay Area to help run a wine program at an elite restaurant and found himself next to restaurant and wine superstars who showed him the opportunities growing just up the road, and he eventually took the red pill and jumped in as a winemaker.
There is plenty of stuff coming out of Sonoma and even more so Napa at 4x the price that I would put this up against...I'm not kidding, not even a little bit. It’s also rare to see single vineyard organic Cabernet offerings hit this price point.
If Cabernet Sauvignon is your thing, you’re gonna want to give this a try!
If Cabernet Sauvignon is not your thing, maybe try it anyway? I kinda think it's that good. One of those wines that everyone will like (famous last words...)
Happy Tuesday All!!

Paul Hobbs is unquestionably one of the guys who gives the flying winemaker a good name. His work in Argentina has helped set the entire country on the quality course it currently enjoys. His own wines have achieved cult status since launching in 1991.
So twenty years ago, he decided to produce wines without the lofty pricing of his own label. Crossbarn wines are made at an old apple processing facility in Sebastopol, California, and are essentially made like Hobbs top-flight wines, night harvested, hand sorted, fermented in small lots, long lees aging. The main difference is the low percentage of new oak and the mix of vineyards from the Sonoma Coast.
That is basically wine speak to tell you that the plan Hobbs developed here was to deliver outstanding value - and mission accomplished.

You may have noticed, but we have a lot of store favorites coming back in stock after a long winter of waiting!
Maybe the one we have been getting asked about the most, is Bleu Blanc Thau.
And as with most new arrivals, we celebrate with a sale! 😁🔥
I think Bleu Blanc Thau at the sale price of $7.99 may be the best white value and one of the best overall value wines in the store.
Like, it's almost impossible for me to describe how good this is for $7.99!
What's up with the wine?
We found the Vivarés brothers from Cotes de Thau – you’ve probably not heard of it but it’s the hilly coastal part of Languedoc in Mediterranean France. They live in Pézenas, which you should visit someday because it’s the charming birthplace of France’s greatest playwright, Molière. Robert Vivarés has a B&B with a fine restaurant and Paul travels the world for his business tasting a lot of wines. They needed a house wine that reflected the place where they grew up. So they blended Picpoul, Terret and Colombard from the hills around them and called it Bleu Blanc and its straight up silly value.
Happy Wednesday All!

We're keeping the Holiday Weekend sale train rolling!
We thought this needed to be part of the package 1) because people love bubbles and mimosas and 2) to really highlight what an insane value this wine is.
The other day I saw LaMarca Prosecco at Harris Teeter for $14.99 per bottle (here). The world has gone mad. Can't we still get delicious bubbly for only $9.99 per bottle?!?!?
Sometimes I just think we are extra lucky to have found this producer. They are a small producer in a sea of Prosecco producers, and the quality to value on this item is simply off the charts.
Dare I say this is the best under $10 sparkling wine I have had? I'm willing to put that out there into the universe.
Raphael dal Bo is a real guy, born and raised in Conegliano, the beating heart of Prosecco, the place that still produces the indisputably best version of the Glera grape that gives us this absolutely cheery bubbly. That certainly explains why he was the first to receive organic certification for his Organic Prosecco and why he remains solely focused upon Prosecco still today.
But what is up with Prosecco in general?
After decades as an only vaguely popular international wine, in 2009 Prosecco was redefined; its lesser regions becoming DOCs and its more specialized areas, Conegliano-Valdobbiadene and Colli Asolani, gaining DOCG status. There was plenty of good news in that: no more would lesser areas be available for bottling as Prosecco, and Italy could go to war against other countries (like Australia) labeling their white wines as Prosecco. For Australian producers (and others), Prosecco was a grape, not a place. Concomitant with these changes, Italy had re-titled the grape as Glera, thus mooting any possibility of other countries insisting that they were just naming their wines Prosecco as a varietal designation. Maybe it helped, but Prosecco blew up, internationally speaking.
This labeling scheme was good lawyering stuff, for sure. But the larger issue is that Prosecco is now rather complicated, if it is more protected and (theoretically at least), more controlled and likely to be of higher quality. Prosecco producers also began labeling their wines by sugar levels: Raffaello’s Extra Dry (made of 100% Glera) has about the same amount of sugar in it as most Champagnes, so it’s not sweet. But Prosecco of old was generally dry and the higher end DOCG stuff remains so. Confused yet? You should be. This is all wine law in full frontal evolution and it’s anybody’s guess if this makes Prosecco sexier or more popular than it already is. That said, it's still the first choice for most folks.
So if you're looking for inexpensive bubbly for this Holiday Weekend (or any really any reason at all), this is a do not miss!!

Benières Pinot Noir, which you all have gobbled up to the tune of more than 150,000 bottles in the last 24 months, has been out of stock for 3 months 👀
So to celebrate it's return, we are putting it on sale to show why it, and it's Chardonnay sibling, are simply two of the best value wines on planet earth right now.
We told you back in December that for the 3rd year in a row Benières Pinot Noir and Chardonnay didn't win the voting here for our Wine of the Year, but maybe they should have. That we were not sure there is any brand we carry more on fire than Benieres - and that there is no brand bringing more thunder when it comes to the quality / price ratio than these wines right now.
The guy who wrote the review above about the Benières Pinot Noir clearly agrees 😂 My guess is he is buying a case at this price.
As always, thank you for your support. We work hard every single day to bring you the best possible customer service, the greatest quality wines, and the guaranteed lowest prices...and it is because of you that we are able to make that happen.
You guys know the drill! Let's do this! Happy Wednesday!

It's last call on the 2020 vintage of maybe the most unique wine in the entire store...Ladron del Palacio.
If you are not into BIG red wine, you can stop reading now. But this wine has become somewhat of a store favorite over the last 2 years, and it doesn't hurt the package is one of the coolest I have ever seen.
What wine are we even talking about here?
While consumers have been heaping praise online for this wine like the below:

We think the late Josh Raynolds summed up this wine perfectly with this unbelievable ability to convey what a wine tastes like through words.

What makes this stuff so special?
Many of you know and love "Escorlada" - the $20 showstopper from one of the first families of Spanish wine that we brought into the United States (the wine with the ships on the label).
Well, that wine has a big brother...and by big brother, we mean BIG.
This Spanish powerhouse comes from nearly century old garnacha vines, yielding some of the lowest tonnage yields I have ever heard of, and is aged in 100% new Taransaud French Oak (think the Ferrari of the barrel world).
When talking about low yields, let us take the Musigny vineyard for example - one of the top spots for Grand Cru Burgundy (Pinot Noir), where bottles start around $300. Le Musigny typically in a good year will yield some 3,500 liters of wine per hectare. The yields from the Garnacha vines that go into the Ladron yield just 700 liters per hectare (that means every 2.5 acres of vines at this site only yields 933 bottles of wine).
In Napa these bottles would cost $500 just based on that alone :)
In honor of Josh Raynolds we'll be drinking one tonight...but if you want one get while the gettin' is good! This is last call!!

When your best selling rosé of all time comes back in stock after a brief hiatus, you just have to celebrate, don't you?
I get why we all love it so much...I mean, the wine is delicious...and at the sale price of $9.99 it is just a silly value.
Why is the wine so special?
Well, if you stick around the wine business long enough, you’ll have seen it all. Where once wine coolers were cooler than Liebfraumilch, now hard seltzer is hot (served cold). White Zin was once de rigeur, though it was never French; it was from the good ol’ US of A. But then that became too sweet and the category died. Or seemed to. Because then rosé rose up like a zombie eager for fresh meat, though the current iteration of the pink stuff is more often French than not. Provence is the epicenter of it and the French have figured out how we like it: dry, pale pink, light and refreshing.
Larme has all this and more in spades.
$9.99 per bottle. 5 days only.
So lets get to it! Happy Wednesday all!

We've got a one time only, doozie of a deal for you today!
GunBun (that’s how Friends of GunBun, or FOG's, say it, or so I’ve heard) has been around for a long time. Way back in 1858, in fact, though the family was farming things other than grapes. Since becoming winemakers, they’ve earned a reputation for doing things really well, whether it’s Rhinefarm Merlot (some legendary wines in the 80s), or even Riesling. Their Rhinefarm vineyards are at the southernmost point in Sonoma Valley, flanked by the Carneros district to the south, Napa Valley to the east and enjoys a combo of steep hillsides and cool valley floor sites, with Riesling down in the cool spots and the red grapes baking in the exposed areas up higher.
Their Pinot Noir sits between, in clay loam with occasional pockets of gravel from the adjacent Arroyo Seco Creek. Optically sorted (ooh, somebody has money here), then a five to seven-day cold soak followed by twice-daily, gentle pump-overs, the wine spends 10 months in French oak, 40% new.
What all of that winespeak means is you're about to get some ridiculously well made, extremely delicious Pinot Noir from a single vineyard source for only $24.99.
I try and not look a gift horse in the mouth, so I'm just gonna get me some and go on my merry way! Only 100 cases available...99 after I just bought one 😂
Let's get to it!

How about an 100% organic, single vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon at the lowest price in the US to take us into the weekend?!?!?!
Dreams do come true!
From the same people that brought you the Roost Chardonnay, this organic single vineyard offering that shows just how good some of the deals are getting right now.
As we told you before, Bonterra is the OG of organic vineyard people; they have been pushing organic viticulture since before most other vintners were born. They’ve probably gotten good at growing grapes that way because they’re very likely the largest producer of organic grapes in the US, though don’t quote us on that. But there’s no question that McNab Ranch is one of the original Biodynamic® vineyards planted in the United States, so The McNab (as they’re calling this Cabernet Sauvignon) is a foundational example of what Bonterra Organic Vineyards has been all about since they started in 1993, carving the organic vineyard sites out of the greater and much larger Fetzer Vineyards.
For me, it’s an amazing Cabernet for this price point. It’s not over the top or overly tannic, and I like Cabernet with some acidity - as it keeps me coming back to the glass again and again. I actually had a bottle last Sunday and it barely made it to Monday 😂
Avg US price is $54 online according to wine-searcher - and at $39.99 we are lowest price in the US (you guys know how we roll!).
So TGIF! I know what I'm drinking tonight!

Sometimes bands breakup. We see it all the time.
Well, the same thing happens in wine. Sometimes an importer and a winery decide to part ways, and that means there is inventory to clear out.
Recently, wine wizard Eric Solomon and his longtime partner Bodegas Castaño decided to part ways. In the aftermath of that decision we were able to get access to some screaming deals, including this one on Hecula Organic Monastrell.
In previous Hecula deal offerings, we have told you that the wine press had been gushing over Hecula for over a decade now, stating:
"Is the average buyer at this price point ready for this? An amazing value"
"Perhaps the most rewarding under $15 wine I have had in a long time"
"As long as I have been drinking wine this has over-delivered in the value category"
So while this may be the last time we see Hecula until they can find new representation, we're going to enjoy it while it is here.
Get while the gettin' is good!

This is the lowest price we have ever been able to offer on this wine! And I'm not gonna tell you this is the best deal we're gonna offer this year, but it certainly is going to be near the top.
I've never seen this wine offered below $10 before! 🔥
Why are we so excited?
The Cohn family has a long history in the wine trade of Northern California (as well as a history of managing The Doobie Brothers but we must save that for another time...I'm serious). They were one of the original fruit sources for wineries like Sebastiani and Gundlach Bundschu and since 1984 they have been producing their own wines as well. Their first winemaker? Helen Turley. You read that correctly. She's like kind of a big deal right now...just like this wine!
Their Silver Label Cabernet is a staple of fine dining establishments across the country...one taste and it is easy to see why. It's rich, easy drinking and complex Cabernet at a friendly price point.
Only downside? There are only 112 cases at this deal price.
First come, first served. You guys know what to do!
Happy Wednesday!

Okay, we’ll admit it, Italian wine is confusing.
It’s not you; it’s them.
They’ve been making wine for thousands of years; and it’s as if they’ve been dreaming up names, places and grapes for that long as well. Take Montepulciano d’Abruzzo. You might think we’re referring to Vino Nobile de Montepulciano but, no, that’s a place in Tuscany where they make Sangiovese, nearby Chianti. There they call the grape Prugnolo Gentile. Confused yet? We’ve got this. 😂
Montepulciano is a town but it's also a grape not grown in that town. When that grape (Montepulciano) is grown in the Abruzzo region, it’s rich, plush, fun and juicy as all get out. And it’s also not respected enough by the Italians to charge you a lot of money. I think they’re confused too.
So if you're like me and always looking for delicious $9.99 wines to add to your lineup? Your ship has come in!
I know what I'm drinking tonight! Happy Tuesday y'all!

Last night I scoured nearly 17 years of our newsletters to see how many times we have been able to offer Chateaneuf du Pape (CDP) for less than $30. I was able to find one instance in 2014. 👀
CDP has just gotten expensive as its popularity has grown, so to be able to offer some juice at this price from a high quality producer like Guillaume Gonnet gets us extremely fired up!
How good is Gonnet?
There are plenty of people in the Rhone Valley with long histories in the wine biz. Guillaume Gonnet is a third-generation winemaker from the region and, after traveling for years in Bordeaux, Burgundy, Napa, and New Zealand, he met his wife in Australia. They came back to the Rhone, took over the family plot and, more importantly, they bought some Chateauneuf-du-Pape vines in 2015, with some of those vines a half century to nearly a century old.
They destem most of the grapes (principally the 70% Grenache) while the 10% Syrah gets to stay in clusters. The rest of the blend is 10% Mourvèdre and 10% Cinsault. So it’s both a modernistic style of Chateauneuf (what with the Mourvedre and Cinsault, like the cool kids do it), and very traditional, because Mourvèdre and Cinsault were what the old folks did back in the 19th century too.
This wink to history with a focus on modernity creates a wine that absolutely shines at this price point. Elegant wines with equal parts intensity and freshness.
I don't know how long this deal will be around, but I'm gonna drink up while we can...and I know what I'm gonna be drinking tonight!
TGIF!

Back in February we attended a trade show called Wine Paris (I know, someone had to do it...), and one of the standouts of the Rhone Valley for us was the 2021 Domaine des Bernardins "Beaumes de Venise".
The name of the wine is super long, and the label is decidedly old school, but pay that no mind - this stuff is crazy delicious. While $27.99 is not my everyday price point, the quality of this offering has me lining this up for a Saturday night bottle for sure.
So what's the deal here?
It might seem like French wine is a fixed and well-established thing but it’s ever changing. The southern Rhone Valley is the prime example: new AOPs (yeah, we don’t call them AOCs anymore; that changed too), new styles and, ahem, new prices. Take Beaumes de Venise, as an example, where the name once meant one of the most delicious unknown sweet wines of Europe. But with the changes wrought by the fashion and climate change, there are lots of intense red wines being made in this hilly region nearby the more famed Gigondas AOP. Think of Beaumes de Venise as bargain Gigondas. Or really, really bargain Chateaneuf-du-Pape.
And given how much I love Chateauneuf du Pape, I'm all about that...especially at this price 😁
Only hiccup here is that we only have access to 50 cases of this wine for the entire vintage. So don't dawdle, if you know what I mean. At quantities like that small, I sometimes buy 3 or six so that I can drink a few immediately and then stash some away for Thanksgiving or something like that. (Actually, did I just find my Turkey Day wine in March?!?!?)
Happy Wednesday y'all! We hope you love this one as much as we do!
