What's up with the wine?

Let’s just state from the outset that simply because Cambria is a big and successful winery, owned by a bigger and successful winery (Jackson Family) doesn't mean that their wines aren’t interesting. How do I know that? Because Chateau Latour is a big and successful winery (more than 30,000 cases per year, by some accounts) and nobody seems to complain about that. And they too are owned by a bigger and successful company, Groupe Artemis, who also own restaurants, publishing houses, clothing companies and Christie’s, for starters.

So, can we dispense with the attitude that merely because Cambria sells a lot of Pinot Noir, it must not be very good. Think about that for a second. If they sell a lot of wine, they MUST be good, right? They have this new clonal project and it includes Clone 4 (most people call it Pommard) which they planted back in 1970. If I was making Pinot Noir and I had to pick a single clone to rely upon, it would be Pommard. It produces Pinot Noir that is deep, delicious and keeps you coming back for more.

At $9.99, which is the lowest price in the US by a country mile, this is a back up the truck type of situation. If you love Pinot Noir, do not miss!
