Even as hot as it is going to get, I am still going to be drinking red wine with my burgers on July 4th...and Darley Alexander Valley Red is on deck!!
It is crazy to think we can drink wine of this quality at this price point. This kind of thing just did not exist when we started out in the wine business.
Wine wizard Baron Ziegler is the brains behind Darley, and his track record is like no other. He founded Banshee Wines and built it into a powerhouse before selling to Foley Family in 2018. He partnered with legendary winemaker Pax Mahle on Halcon. He launched Marine Layer, Valravn, Averaen, Requiem. The man knows how to find great juice and turn it into something special — and he keeps doing it over and over again.
The 2023 Darley is 100% single vineyard Cabernet from a famed vineyard in Alexander Valley — one of the most celebrated appellations in Sonoma County for Cabernet Sauvignon. The same vineyard currently produces a $75 Cabernet and an $85 Sauvignon Blanc under its own label. We're drinking from the same vines. Same dirt. Same Alexander Valley sun.
Is it too good to be true? The answer is no.
The dirty little secret in the wine business is that the cost to produce a $200 bottle of wine and a $20 bottle of wine is not that different...and Baron and his team are not afraid to pick up the leftovers in this particular situation 😁.
I get the sense many of you already know this wine is special. Darley has quietly become one of our most requested reds — crushing it during Thanksgiving, Wines of the Year, Super Bowl weekend. It even recently came in 2nd place in our Silver Oak Blind tasting.
No newsletter feature needed, just word of mouth doing its thing.
If you haven't tried it yet, now's the time!
