Burns Landing Cabernet is having one heck of a start to the year.
Wine arrives in January. Wins the Prisoner blind tasting in February. Carries that momentum and almost 5 full months into 2026 is the #4 best selling wine in the entire store!
Just 6 days ago we got the following e-mail from a customer that confirms I guess what a lot of people are feeling right now!
So what is going on with this wine and why are people losing their minds?
Here is what we told you in January:
At some point the bulk market for wine in California will fully correct, equilibrium will be restored for a time, and these insane deals will come to an end. Until then, we are here for the party.
Today’s insane gem - 100% single vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon from the eastern hillside slopes of Alexander Valley, grown in volcanic soil in the foothills of the Mayacamas Mountains - the same mountain range that forms the spine between Sonoma and Napa, the same range that gives structure to some of the most expensive Cabernet on earth.
This is the second time we have bought juice from this winery. The first time someone forwarded the e-mail to the winemaker, who then called me and was like “Yo, I thought we had an agreement…” and I got my wrists slapped.
So this time I can only tell you about the vineyard site - but that is enough to send any Cabernet lover into overdrive.
The specific vineyard site sits along Chalk Hill Road, where Alexander Valley, Chalk Hill, and Knights Valley converge. There are only a handful of properties on this stretch. The soils are red volcanic - well-drained, mineral-rich, and nutrient-poor - which is exactly what you want. Vines struggle here. They send roots deep into fractured volcanic bedrock looking for water, and in return they produce small, intensely concentrated fruit with natural acidity and structure that you find in some of the most expensive wines on planet earth.
This particular site was planted by the same viticulturist who shaped the vineyards for Opus One and Robert Mondavi's legendary To-Kalon holdings in Oakville. You read that correctly…the person who designed the most iconic vineyard in the history of American wine planted this one too.
The estate directly adjacent to this vineyard produces three Bordeaux-style blends that routinely score 98-100 points from Robert Parker, retail north of $400 per bottle, and are only available through mailing list allocation.
These guys hand-harvest. They obsessively sort. The wine is unfined, unfiltered, and un-acidified - which is winemaker speak for "we didn't cut any corners."
All of that, and thanks to a bulk market that keeps on delivering the goods, we have it on sale this holiday weekend for only $19.99.
Let the mayhem begin!
Happy Wednesday all!
