In some weird world I thought this wine was going to last like 7-8 months. I was terribly wrong.
Ever since this e-mail went out almost 30 days ago, this wine has gone out the door at a clip of more than 15 cases per day, every day, seven days a week. This is also a wine where we have had more 2+ case re-orders from customers than on any other wine we have ever sold. (meaning the number of you who bought some, took it home and tried it, and then came back and bought 2+ cases is off the charts)
While it is incredibly exciting that people have loved the wine that much, it kinda stinks as we are going to run out soon. The last 300 cases of this arrived last Friday. At our current clip that means this will last 17(ish) days (but we all know when things get low the velocity speeds up considerably).
I’m in for another case…and I’ll pretend like I’m going to save some and drink it over the next year. Truth be told, I’ll drink through it before July 4th :)
Here is what we told you about the wine the first time:
It’s tough for me to contain my excitement about this one. It is unanimous amongst our team - this is the single best under $25 wine (of any varietal) we have ever offered. It may be the best sub $50 Cabernet we have ever offered.
Our long time partner, Baron Ziegler, brought it to us from from one of the top, if not the top, estate in all of Sonoma County - but it's a name we cannot give you for all sorts of wine related legal reasons. Their vineyards in the Moon Mountain District are managed by a viticulturalist with clients like Harlan and Bedrock and the wines are made by a winemaker whose portfolio basically only encompasses $150 per bottle small lot wines
This particular lot, from 2017, was destined to go into one of the premier offerings at the winery, priced at $155. They decided the quality for $155 single block offering wasn't quite there, so they decided to sell the juice off into the bulk market.
We bought it. Yes, it's only a one time deal. But we bought every last bit of it :)
Other vintages of this wine include vivino write ups like this:
So the stars had aligned for a great opportunity - only issue what label would it be bottled under? It needed to be special, to reflect the insane quality of the wine. So we set to work with Baron on what we could do...
We partnered with celebrated Irish hunting and equestrian artist Peter Curling, and turned his 2002 painting “Royal Ascot Jubilee 2002” into a wine label. Last fall we got sign off on the label from Sir Francis Brooke, the Queen’s representative at Ascot (she is featured in the painting), and now we are ready to turn it loose. The painting was transferred to digital form by Tony Murray.
Nearly 30% of all the cases bottled under this one time label were sold to a distributor in the United Kingdom, to be sold in London and Windsor (and I assure you they will not be charging $24.99 per bottle).
Oh, I forgot to mention, yes this wine is only $24.99. Moon Mountain District, epic winery, world class winemaking team - $24.99.
Very good chance Oprah will be serving this at her next interview with Harry and Meghan :)
