If you stick around the wine business long enough, you’ll have seen it all. Where once wine coolers were cooler than Liebfraumilch, now hard seltzer is hot (served cold). White Zin was once de rigeur, though it was never French; it was from the good ol’ US of A. But then that became too sweet and the category died. Or seemed to. Because then rosé rose up like a zombie eager for fresh meat, though the current iteration of the pink stuff is more often French than not. Provence is the epicenter of it and the French have figured out how we like it: dry, pale pink, light and refreshing.

Grenache is a remarkable grape with the ability to generate rich, dark and powerful wine when the crop yields are modest, but just as equally it can make vast quantities of pleasant wine, with less color but vibrantly fruity aromas. As a basis for rosé, it’s very nearly perfect, and it’s been the grape of choice for southern French rosés for a century or more. A touch of texture, some brief gratings of black peppercorns and lots of raspberries and strawberries.

Truth be told, Grenache makes a reasonably tasty rosé but it’s never complete without some Cinsault. Why? Cinsault is floral, with red cherries and plums as the through line between the two grapes. Syrah brings the strawberries and raspberries, but Cinsault gives to the blend a cranberry finish.
*our systems will be going down on Sunday March 7th at 7pm for maintenance and will not come back online until 8am on Monday March 8th.
