Call it T. Solomon 2.0.
At this point in my career I should know that you never say never, and this was one of those times. We told you back in February that this was a one time deal. No repeats.
We were approached 4 weeks ago by the broker that brought us this 100% single vineyard Campbell Ranch juice from some of the powerhouses who also founded Kosta Browne and he said that a restaurant group in LA backed out of their commitment for 4 pallets of the stuff (224 cases). We thought the juice was long gone, but I guess their loss is our gain.
This wine was simply too good to pass up (as many of you know), but we told them to take all 224 cases and have them picked up within the month (and also to save some face that they told us what we bought was all that was available) the price would have to be lower. After a significant amount of hemming and hawing, we had a deal.
The cornerstone of our business model is when we get a better deal, you get a better deal. We already stated that this may be the best sub $40 Pinot Noir you were ever going to try.
At $24.99 as part of our huge July 4th sale? I’m not even sure what to say...
We can say with near certainty that, at a minimum, you will never again see 100% Campbell Ranch juice for $24.99 again in our lifetimes…but never say never 😁
Original e-mail about the wine is below.

We have something special for you today!
On August 23rd of last year, a winemaker we have worked with in CA for many years sent us the sample in the pictures below. He told us it was 100% Pinot Noir, but other than that we had no idea what these notations on the bottle meant.
So we tasted the wine. It was good. Like really, really, really, good. Like I actually ended up drinking the entire sample bottle good (not by myself of course, but hey...we don't judge here 😂).
The winemaker went into this explanation of how he could not provide us with the source of the juice, he didn’t want to violate his NDA, etc. etc. etc. and then told us the price.
At this point in the situation I told the guy point blank that we wanted every last drop of the wine, but we would not move forward unless he gave us the full details. He caved...but we can only tell you part of the story.
So it turns out that cryptic message on the bottle "2020-ALD-PNCB” stood for "2020 ******** Pinot Noir Campbell Ranch”…no wonder it was so good.
I can't tell you what the ALD is (because I promised not to), but you can potentially do some google searching and figure it out. What I can tell you is that the people behind "ALD" are some of the most successful Pinot Noir entrepreneurs in the United States. The winemaker at ALD has a Wine Spectator Wine of the Year under his belt (which may or may have not been the 2011 Wine of the Year) and is a master of Pinot Noir.
So we get this sample and find out the winery wants to sell off a chunk of their 2020 Campbell Ranch juice. The release price on this single vineyard wine is $72.00 per bottle (if you can find it). I signed up for the winery mailing list and could not even buy it.
I have tasted the final version twice now, and I am willing to put my professional reputation on the line here and tell you that this may be the best sub $40 Pinot Noir you are ever going to try. I already went back and inquired about the possibility of getting more juice and we have not even sold one bottle.
There is no more. So now I can also tell you that this is it. This is a one time, one off deal. No repeats.
This is it!
To celebrate the occasion of getting access to this juice we brought back the T. Solomon Wellborn label that was around over a decade ago. This label, originally from Tantara and produced for exclusive restaurants in Los Angeles (we were the only retailer in the US to get any), made its way onto some of the worlds best value lists with virtually no distribution. It was like a unicorn wine. T Solomon was developed as a program to bottle their excess single vineyard juice - almost the exact same scenario we have here.
I’m buying a bunch for myself. 2 cases. I like it that much…and I know I’m going to go through the first case relatively quickly sharing bottles with people and going “you won’t believe this… 😁”
I know what I'm drinking tonight! TGIF!
