Thanksgiving Specials
SALE runs Tuesday November 17th - Sunday November 22nd, 2020
We continue to recommend using our website (HERE) and choosing in store / curbside pickup, and we will walk your order out and place it in your car.
Is it really almost Thanksgiving?!?!
That means it is time for our annual Thanksgiving Wine Sale!
This is, without question, the largest Holiday sale we have ever run (with some of the steepest discounts), and given that we decided to extend this annual sale an extra day just to make sure everyone can get in on the action.
In a world where we already work hard to guarantee you the absolute lowest prices, we are pulling out all the stops!! I mean, I am sorry but wines like Highland Falls for $9.99 boggles the mind in terms of the quality to price ratio.
2020 Thanksgiving is certainly going to be different (news flash - that may be the understatement of the year), but whether you are giving thanks in person or over facetime, we know we have so much to be thankful for!
As for wine? 2020 isn't going to change some things about the Holidays. It doesn't matter when or how you drink it - but we're 99% sure you're gonna need some vino over the next couple of weeks :)
That is why we are pulling out some hot deals on some of our favorite wines! All prices are good through Sunday, November 22nd! (no, they are not good on the 23rd)
It should also be noted that as always, there are going to be some insane "in store only" specials rolling.

"Mountain-grown, it’s the richest kind,” as coffee commercials used to say, but it’s also true of Cabernet. Foley Family's pedigree doesn’t hurt either: the guys who bring you Merus, Chalone and Chalk Hill Wines are behind the powerhouse Highland Falls lineup too.

The vast vineyards of France’s Languedoc hold many well-known grapes, including Chardonnay that is friendly and accessible. This one is gathered from organic vineyards on the Aspères plateau with its excellent marl and limestone soils. The winemaking is straightforward – stainless steel fermenters and just enough lees stirring to enrich the texture and flavors. We love finding wines like this!

Over four generations of winemaking, the Vellas family have slowly assembled a strong group of properties in Languedoc and Roussillon (Mediterranean France). In beautiful sites like Mas du Pont (near Montpellier) they have created not only a vast set of vineyards but also farmlands, bull breeding, equestrian centers, olive groves and more. They pull from IGPs and AOPs (Euro-language for delimited and defined wine areas) such as Costiere de Nimes, Coteau Varois, Oc, Saint-Guilhem, Grès, Saint Drézery, Muscat de Lunel, Languedoc, Pic St. Loup and Faugères. With Cabernet spread out across these sunny and Mediterranean climes, ripeness and aromatics are both in strong supply.

Spanish wine is a bargain, right? It’s been that way for decades, though it’s only been in the last ten or fifteen years that the wider world has dropped some in their gullets and said, wait, this costs how much? Certainly, less than it should. It doesn't take geniuses to notice it, so we’re not making any claims to our own brilliance. In the case of this Garnacha Tintorera, we’re pretty sure we’ve found what may be the best sub $20 wine we have ever tasted. Spain has done it again!

Gascony ain't just the Three Musketeers, though they have a place in our hearts as well. More than anything, Gascony is foie gras, delicious plums and apricots, rich dinners with Armagnac to follow. But the white grapes grown here are not just for great brandy, they have always been consumed as wine too and the last decade or so has seen an embrace of clean, cold winemaking to preserve the aromas of otherwise neutral grapes like Ugni Blanc or Folle Blanche. It's also seen new plantings of Sauvignon Blanc, a grape that requires no heroic measures to reveal its aromatic riches. Whats fun here is that these same winemaking methods generate something bright and vibrant but without much resemblance to other such Sauvignon Blancs (I'm looking at you, New Zealand), many of which have begun to seem like self-caricature. This one is comfortably itself, needing only an ice bucket and a big glass.

If you stick around the wine business long enough, you’ll have seen it all. Where once wine coolers were cooler than Liebfraumilch, now hard seltzer is hot (served cold). White Zin was once de rigeur, though it was never French; it was from the good ol’ US of A. But then that became too sweet and the category died. Or seemed to. Because then rosé rose up like a zombie eager for fresh meat, though the current iteration of the pink stuff is more often French than not. Provence is the epicenter of it and the French have figured out how we like it: dry, pale pink, light and refreshing.

Grenache is a remarkable grape with the ability to generate rich, dark and powerful wine when the crop yields are modest, but just as equally it can make vast quantities of pleasant wine, with less color but vibrantly fruity aromas. As a basis for rosé, it’s very nearly perfect, and it’s been the grape of choice for southern French rosés for a century or more. A touch of texture, some brief gratings of black peppercorns and lots of raspberries and strawberries.

This is a tasty little gem unearthed by the pros at Banshee Wines. Banshee, started by three guys who just happened to like wine and wanted an excuse to be out west, hasn't been around long but they sure have kicked off righteously during their short career. They’ve always been focused upon cooler climate sites, especially with Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, and at the prices they offer their wines, it’s no surprise that things have gone swimmingly well.

The Comte Tolosan region encompasses famed wine regions: Jurancon, Cahors and Armagnac. Typically, the white wines are based upon neutral grapes like Ugni Blanc, Colombard, and Folle Blanche, or more aromatic grapes like Petit Manseng or Gros Manseng. While few of these grapes have distinctive personalities, if you put them into a harmonious blend, they can be pretty charming.

It’s surprising that grapes like Sauvignon Blanc aren’t more widely planted in southern France, as they can be harvested fairly early to retain bright and citrusy acidity without really losing character or even complexity. Maybe wines like this will encourage more winemakers to try working with crisp and aromatic white grapes in Languedoc-Roussillon.

Bodegas Lo Nuevo's success has allowed them to spread their wings to other prestigious regions. Their Montsant projects have brought them perhaps even more fame than in Jumilla. Orlaida could become a benchmark for the potential of Montsant. The vineyards for their Garnacha are at 2,000 ft. in altitude in the area of Cornudella de Montsant, with Priorat like slate soils. Cariñena vineyards in Darmós and Masrig are on clay soils, and the Syrah vines are located on limestone.

This wine’s aromatics are generated by the Sauvignon Blanc, always bursting with character whether under ripe or overripe; here it’s all green pear and melon. But Colombard can add significant texture; Gros Manseng might offer some tropical notes. Put them together and this is one of the true values that classic French wine regions can create.

This blend of Picpoul,Terre, and Colombard is so tasty, so refreshingly crisp (but still weighty enough to matter) and, dare we say it, a freaking value that it practically crawled into our bag and said take me home the first time we tasted it. Say hello to your new house white wine.

Among the diverse operations the Vellas family manages on their estates in Languedoc and Roussillon is an equestrian center and a “Manades” or farm where they breed Camargue bulls, bred solely for the "course camarguaise" (Camargue style of bullfighting). It’s not the bloody affair that we associate with bullfighting (at least, that’s the goal). In the arena, the bull gives chase with a dozen “razeteurs” (Camargue bullfighters) who try to remove a cockade that has been attached between its horns with strings. Not for the faint of heart. The wine too is a big, bold blend from the highly regarded Costiere de Nimes AOP – horns not included.

Bodegas Lo Nuevo has unquestionably modernized their winery; it’s practically a technical marvel now. But what makes these wines special is the place, Jumilla, with its intense weather. It’s tough ground for most grapes, but Monastrell (the French, who borrowed it from Spain, call it Mourvedre) and Cariñena (once again, a borrowed grape dubbed Carignan by the French) can thrive here.

Until recently, for Australian producers (and others), Prosecco was a grape and not a place. Recent changes Italy made to how Prosecco is classified, by renaming the grape in these wines as Glera and deeming Prosecco a place and not a grape, mooted any possibility of other countries insisting that they were just naming their wines Prosecco as a varietal designation. Maybe it helped, but Prosecco blew up, internationally speaking. Raffaello is by far, in a sea of Prosecco producers, the best value we have ever tasted.

Syrah is planted throughout Mediterranean France, and has a strong reputation dating back to the mid-19th century when Bordeaux chateaux would blend a small amount into their wines to improve them. Alicante? It’s one of the rare Teinturier grapes, having red juice as well as red skins and in the right spots it can be powerful and juicy, not just inky. Together they make for a very modern, fascinating, if untraditional, wine.
